We stayed at Hotel Adonis on our second trip to Zermatt. On our first trip, we stayed at a different, similarly priced hotel, so we have a small amount of experience on what's available.||Overall, Adonis's great features like excellent beds and clean rooms are weighed down by the bad, listed below, and at this price, I'd call it an overall unremarkable and average experience, thus 3 out of 5 stars. When we return to Zermatt, we will find different accommodations.||The good|* The beds are wonderfully comfortable as side sleepers and the pillows are great|* The linens were clean and the rooms were too|* The heating works well and the room is well insulated|* The staff is generally friendly and is responsive to email|* The bathrooms are clean and reasonably sized (but not luxurious by any means)|* The elevator is fast|* We were able to get a table at breakfast all the way up until 10am|* The cleaning staff and service are excellent||The bad|* Their "budget double twin" room is uncomfortably small for two adults. The pictures don't really do it justice, it's about half as large as you might think based on the pictures. There's barely any room to put anything, especially if you're traveling with ski gear. We're not even that tall -- if you're over 6 feet you're going to be unhappy.|* The location is far enough away from everything that you've got an uphill hike.|* No shuttle is offered, so that uphill hike is inevitable.|* Unlike most other hotels in Zermatt, which generally have stunning views, this hotel has no real view of anything aside from courtyards and sidewalks. Contrast this with several other hotels which give you a view of the Matterhorn either from one of the hotel rooms or from the dining room. |* The breakfast is ~CHF17 per person, so roughly USD20, which is not overly expensive for Zermatt. Unfortunately, you're not getting much for that $20. What you do get are patently terrible, likely boxed eggs, served nice and wet (swimming in water, to be clear). The bacon is edible, but questionable (it looks slimy).|* The dining room itself is, like the rooms, uncomfortably tiny. To make matters worse, it's crammed full of tables so you can barely navigate when there are others in the dining room.|* They don't accept American Express, even if you book the hotel via American Express's travel site.|* The night access code never worked. Luckily someone was available to let us in after hours (11pm-7am).||The ugly|* They've hung insane, rude signs all around the room warning about steam from the showers. They say it will set off the smoke and fire alarm, and if that happens, they say they'll fine you CHF500 🙄🤮 There's even signs that say "no showering after 10PM" -- excuse me? At their prices they're going to tell me when I can't...
Read moreWe spent 6 days at the Hotel Adonis in February for a ski trip with my teenage son and a friend of mine. The hotel location is very good with easy access (5 min walk) to the Matterhorn paradise ski lift (which connects you to most ski areas and over to Italy) and a 2-3 minutes walk to local restaurants, bars, mini supermarket (bit pricey) with a 6-10 min walk to the main village centre where the action is. No steep hills or stairs to walk up or down to the hotel with your ski gear which is a bonus.||||The Hotel is quiet and comfortable offering a good buffet breakfast (with hot food etc) in a pleasant room and a decent ski boot room, small gym and sauna (payable). Also a comfortable lounge with small bar and fire to sit around. The wifi worked well, never had any issues. We arrived around midnight but our rooms keys were waiting for us at the desk as promised by Rita as reception closes around 8pm. Our room was quiet with good mountain views and we never had any noise issues.||||The manager Isabelle is friendly, very knowledgeable about local ski conditions and can advise where to ski if the weather is off etc. The staff were helpful and anything I requested was happily dealt with. A large bottle of complimentary sparkling water was renewed every day which was a nice touch. There is a microwave oven near reception if you need to heat up anything.||||Overall we were very happy with our stay and would stay there again if...
Read moreWe reserved one room for 2 nights in february 2021. We reserved on Friday around 12.00 hours, for saturnday and Sunday night. 20 min after the reservation, we have god a call from someone which we was in direct contact, that was announcing us that he was COVID positive. We called the hotel(about 40 minutes after the reservation confirmed), to inform them about this situation , and to ask if we can move our reservation to another weekend, or if we can cancel the reservation. We got negative answer, they told me “ if you where not in contact without mask all is fine for us”. On my point of view, we tried to be correct with hotel and with their related visitors, we was motivated to avoid any issue and any possible COVID transmission. End of the story: we just loosed our money, because we do not went to the hotel, with this suspicious situation. We preferred to do not stay in contact with people, by knowing that we were in a risky position. Fortunately, we do not got infected. We do not had the chance to visit the hotel, but we do not appreciated the way they did. We think that offering us a date change, or at least 10% discount on the full price, was a better approach. We actually got full payment. Reservation by booking.com. Furthermore, if I see my booking page, looks like I payed 0Euro for the...
