This pizzeria used to be my favourite in Zermatt. I decided to invite my friends for dinner and repeatedly told them how much I like this place and how amazing the pizza is.
I reserved a table, and during the call, the staff informed me that they only accept cash payments. When we arrived, I gave the reservation name, but it was clear the table hadn’t been prepared. Luckily, there was a free one they could seat us at.
We ordered drinks, three pizzas, and one pasta. The drinks came—except one. The staff didn’t explain or apologize. After waiting some time, we had to specifically ask about the missing drink, which was then finally brought to us.
Shortly after, our food arrived: two completely burnt pizzas, one okay pizza (which luckily went to my friend, so I didn’t feel guilty), and the pasta. Throughout the entire meal, no one came to ask if everything was okay or if we were enjoying our food. When we asked for pepperoncino, they brought an oil bottle with no peppers inside. At that point, I started to lose patience and requested the bill.
They brought a handwritten note with the prices, even though we saw the staff walking around with a card terminal. It was clear they were trying to avoid giving us an official bill or perhaps even scam us. We asked for a proper receipt, and when it finally came, it was 10 CHF higher than the previous one. The explanation? They had “forgotten” to add the water.
After this experience, I will never return to this pizzeria, nor will I recommend it to anyone. It was a big disappointment. I understand that some local restaurant owners don’t care much about reviews like this—because they don’t have to—but if even one customer reads this before stepping into a place like this and avoids a ruined evening, then it’s...
Read moreThe staff here are so kind and gracious, but tragically the food is bland and flavorless. I’m also questioning the value; $38 CHF lasagna (I.e., $45+ USD) and $14 CHF for plate of only lettuce, called “Green Salad.” I’ve had $45 USD lasagna before and it tasted great. Not the case here. It bafflingly has no flavor. I ate here twice in one week, because it’s in front of my hotel and I needed convenient access to food. The first experience with a pizza (ham, black olives, mozzarella, artichoke, and tomato sauce) was bad as it surprisingly had bland flavor, but the staff were so great I thought maybe it was just me, and decided to give it another shot.
All of my dining experiences in Zermatt have been unique and delicious, so I was surprised to have two tasteless experiences at Roma. And no, this isn’t because of COVID.
That said, on a positive note, the design of the restaurant is super cozy, and I think it’s neat they have a wood fire stove for the pizza. Again, I have to compliment the staff. They’re so lovely. Had I dined-in rather than taken the food to-go, I would’ve brought this up to them.
Anyway! Happy travels, my...
Read moreThe food was very average and overpriced. Definitly a tourist trap. You ask for tap water and they open up a 10chf bottle of water. I noted that all the tourist got cheated into this. The waitress appeared to be very angry and short. The food was not bad bit very very mediocre and nowhere near the quality you should expect. This is like the level of pizza hut at best. The side salad was just a bowl of lettuce leaves with some dressing. Before ordering a pizza we asked how large they come and the waitress said you should order one per person. This is another tourist trap method to get you to order more than you need. We asked again how large then angrily she got another staff member to hold up a plate the size of the pizza. From that we ordered one for the 4 of us and two sides to share. Its our 2nd night in Zermatt. The first nigjts dinner in another establishment was amazing and set us up to be impressed. But sadly this puts things to the level of alot of tourist traps. Please avoid this place. If you really want pizza though that is average please consider getting a takeaway one. It seemed alot of others...
