I recently stayed at Hotel Alpenblick in Switzerland, and unfortunately, my experience wasn’t the relaxing and comfortable retreat I had hoped for. While the location offers picturesque views (if you have one of the rooms with a view) and easy access to local attractions, the hotel itself left much to be desired, particularly for anyone looking for a good night’s rest after a long day of exploring.
One of the biggest issues I encountered was the noise. The walls seemed paper-thin, as I could hear every footstep, conversation, and even the faintest sounds from neighboring rooms. To make matters worse, the early morning housekeeping staff were anything but discreet, starting their rounds at the crack of dawn with little regard for the guests still trying to sleep. If you’re a light sleeper, be prepared for multiple interruptions throughout the night and early morning. Or bring ear plugs.
Another major drawback was the smell in the rooms. Whether it was a lingering mustiness or the more unpleasant odor outside the window, I found it hard to feel comfortable or at ease in the space. Because of the smell behind the hotel (where our room faced), airing out the room wasn’t possible, making the stay even more uncomfortable.
Speaking of comfort, the room’s overall furnishings felt outdated and uncomfortable, with little attention paid to creating a cozy or welcoming atmosphere.
In conclusion, if you’re searching for a peaceful, restful stay after a day of activities, Hotel Alpenblick may disappoint. The noise, unpleasant odors, and uncomfortable accommodations make it hard to recommend, especially for those who prioritize a good night’s sleep during their travels. I would suggest looking elsewhere for a more comfortable and relaxing hotel experience in...
Read moreWe had booked this hotel through Expedia. Expedia had issued us a receipt saying that the hotel was paid in full, but when checking out the front desk informed us that we had only paid for the first of two nights. We were confused and brought up the Expedia receipt showing we had paid for both nights already. The front desk assured us that "this happens all the time with Expedia" and that they did not receive the payment. While we still were trying to figure it out, the front desk proceeded to charge our credit card for the balance without our authorization and said "it's done". Even though we eventually found out that Expedia had not been able to run the payment and had credited back the amount it originally took (without notifying us), so the hotel was owed the balance it took, we felt the situation was dealt with poorly and the front desk should have made sure we felt comfortable before running our...
Read moreOverall, a nice place to stay. The breakfast is adequate but not as robust as other hotels in the area. The rooms do have a nice view of the Matterhorn and some have balconies as well.
It's at the top of a hill, but everything is on a hill at some point in Zermatt. The hotel is essentially on the same road as the main plaza by the train station. Walk off the train, turn left and go up the hill - you'll find it.
Just a reminder to wear comfortable shoes when you're in the area since you'll do a lot of walking. If you take a taxi to the main station it's $35 minimum. We saw lots of unhappy people dragging wheeled suitcases up and down cobblestone streets. Treat yourself to a taxi on your initial arrival or departure...
