We were on a 5-days road trip around Switzerland and had a chance to visit Zermatt on one of the days. Me being Thai, searched for a Thai restaurant and found Rua Thai kitchen popping up so my boyfriend and I went there for a dinner. I’ve seen some reviews here saying that the food is too expensive, but honestly, the whole of Switzerland is expensive! You just gotta make peace with the fact that no matter where you go in Switzerland, it will be a lot more expensive than most European countries.
I ordered Green Beef Curry for my main course and hands down, it was the best green curry I’ve ever tasted from traveling around Europe. Probably the closest taste you can get to Thailand itself! My boyfriend ordered chicken cashew, but as far as chicken cashew goes - there’s not much excitement to it, taste wise ( I think this also depends on what you order. It can be pretty average or it can be really tasty). We loved the dim sum for appetizer, I’m pretty sure it was homemade and again, best dim sum I’ve had!
Atmosphere was decent, the setting was low key, lights were dimmed. Service was prompt! We didn’t wait long for our food at all, the male staff was attentive and really friendly.
When you get out of the restaurant you’ll also get to enjoy the view of the Matterhorn mountain when you walk less than one minute further down towards the bridge. I don’t know about others’ experience but mine was positive and I highly...
Read moreThis place had a few low Google ratings from some months ago, yet to be fair, our dinner experience in Feb this year was totally the opposite. In terms of Atmosphere, the interior was richly, warmly and elegantly designed. It felt very comfortable, providing a nice relief from the cold temperature out on the barren street. In terms of service, from the team supervisor at the entrance to the waiter serving us, all were welcoming (possibly they were not local Swiss), friendly, humorous and they all worked so hard. Lastly, in terms of food taste, it was among the best Thai food I have ever tried, and in terms of food presentation, I feel their chefs might have added a touch of European fusion (as I never saw that style of presentation in Thai food before), which actually made it pleasantly surprising and even more enjoyable. This place has got to be one of the highlights and an unexpected delight of our skiing...
Read moreThe food was so good i forgot to take photos for the review. we had the tom yum soup which came with 3 large, fresh prawns and lots of yummy oyster mushrooms. it was deliciously flavoured and so authentic, the spices tasted so fresh.
we then had the roast duck which came with a lovely orange honey star anise sauce and the skin was so crispy and light, not greasy at all, great cooking technique and so good.
we also had the green curry and it was 100% on point to what you can find in thailand, the spices again, were fresh, thai basil, lemongrass, fresh chilli padi, and even the green vegetable eggplant that is typically required in a green curry.
overall this meal made me so happy as i have been missing spice and flavour (in my life lol) - but seriously, i think best thai restaurant in europe so far - and we have been around travelling multiple times.
the chef is thai who has been cooking here...
