I made a booking for two nights and got a room with a queen size bed in the building next door. At the time of making the booking I requested a smoking room. Was told this was not available at checkin time. Too late to do anything about that after 8 pm when I arrived. The room had been sprayed with a huge amount of room deodorizer it was very overpowering and quite terrible in fact. I went out and left all windows open but when I returned the room was ice cold but the perfume stink was still there. everything in the room stank of the deo spray. I woke up in the morning with a headache because of the chemical smell in the room. When I left the hotel to go shopping I left the room "as is" with the "DO NOT DISTRURB" sticker hanging outside the door. Guess on my surprise and shock when I returned and found that not only had people entered the room in spite on the do not disturb sign and stuffed around with my luggage. laptops, tablet and other electronic items I had left on the desk. I had on purpose asked by means of the DO NOT DISTRURB sign to have the room left alone and I was shocked by this behavior as cleaning personnel always respect the do not disturb sign and leave the room "as is". I complained at the reception but was told that this was "nothing to worry" about, I also found out that they had slapped another 50 CHF on my bill as I had been hanging out the window smoking. Very nasty stuff. I asked to talk to the manager, but was told that this was not possible. eventually, the receptionist contacted the manager who agreed to drop the 50 CHF, with the explanation that they had worried about a smoke detector (even though there are none in the rooms). Be aware of these antics, and if you like are allergic to perfumes and room spray chemicals, do stay away from this hotel. Their attitude towards guests leave some...
Read moreIn the beginning I was a bit afraid to stay there due some comments i read on this page and as well due to the situation of the Hotel as I was traveling with a big bag and discovered through Google that although the Hotel was only at 10 m walk from the HAUPTBANHOF it lays in an higher road ( on top of an wall ) and with stairs to go up. Fortunately a nice young student which was coming down carried up my 20kgs bag . Later I discover that just in front of the Hotel there is a ramp and as well discovered that if at the Hauptbanof I would take the TRAM nº 3 or the bus nº 31 and got out at the NEUMARKT station all those problems will disappear as is the Point where the street Hirschgraben meets the lower street at the same level.
The building of the hotel is an old one but the building where the reception is has been completely renovated and rooms are nicely modern decorated. The staff is excellent and breakfast is ok. So really was a pleasure to be inside the town at this charming small hotel and to wake up with the birds singing as this placel is surrounded by trees. Also is very near the ZURICH most famous MODERN ART MUSEUM and as well to the ZURICH MUSIC CONSERVATORY. To old town is just next , take walk down and climb the streets near the KUNSTALLE The museum of modern art go down scroll around the old ZURICH and enjoy. The efficiency of the SWISS RAILWAYS I should say that is great . Anywhere you go is always great. From airport to town take always the IR - IC trains cost the same and will take you in just 13 minutos to the center of town at a a price...
Read moreClean and well maintained. Very typical of a classic European hotel. I would stay again. Breakfast was good. Rooms were well furnished and bathrooms modern. Staff was extremely friendly and even walked you to the room and explain how things worked. My family has two rooms and no complaints. Pullout coach was comfortable as were the beds. Air conditioner was an in room window unit that sat on the floor. It kept the room cool, but esthetically not pleasing, but for the price of the hotel, not a big deal. Only downfall, was the walk from the train station, up a hill. (Haha, some steps, about 25 on the sidewalk). My suggestion, if walking from the train, take the sidewalk ramp, you will walk about 75m father, but not struggle with the stairs. The location was great, close to the university and historic section. The Red Light District was across the street. (Only a block long and was not an issue, we just crossed the street a block away.) I would highly recommend the hotel and it was a good find at an affordable rate. I...
