It’s not as though I planned to stay long in Zurich, and in fact, we only needed a hotel for the first night of a longer trip. The Alexander Guesthouse and Hotel was convenient, centrally located in the old town, and just a walk from the Zurich HB (hauptbahnhoff, or central station). The location is the first point towards 5/5. Next is the service. Upon arriving, carrying at least one bag too many, I left my partner at a bench, while I went to check in. As I checked in with the front desk, they sent a man to collect her. He carried our bags (from around the corner, and down a block), and with a friendly smile, and great welcome brought our duffels and packs inside. The service was welcoming, and as they informed me that they’d given me an “upgrade” I was pleased to find our corner room on an upper floor, with a pleasant view of the small plaza below. An Alnatura grocer is situated right next to the hotel, which is also convenient. The area around the hotel is a pied a marché, where there are many shops, restaurants, and, as is the only real problem with Zurich, smokers. |But the hotel is a winner. Relatively inexpensive, well situated, and staffed with...
Read moreWe couldn't be happier with our stay at Alexander Guesthouse, and given the great location, I would say at a fair price. The room was spacious, perfectly clean and comfortable, with a nice view at an inside garden. The bed was comfortable and each guest gets two pillows. There were complementary water bottles per guest. The only downside is the bad sound isolation, but for us it wasn't much of a problem, because we were off season and there weren't many guests and our room wasn't facing the street. I could definitely see this as a potential problem to others, but you do get earplugs on the bedside. :)
The staff was very kind and helpful. A perk we especially enjoyed is that you can borrow a wifi device, which you can return at the end of your stay, if you leave a document that has your face on it. Also, you can get tickets for the Kunsthouse (Art museum) at the reception, free of charge! And, there is a complementary coffee station in the hotel lobby, that you can use...
Read moreHORRIBLE customer service. They treat you like a number, not as humans. Greedy and take advantage of travelers.
My fiancé and I had an 18 hour layover in Zurich so we booked a 1 night stay at Alexander guesthouse when we booked the flight. Our flight was canceled 3 hours prior to take off- so unfortunately we had to cancel the hotel immediately (which was early afternoon). I conversed with the hotel numerous times to see if we could get our stay refunded back, providing them with all the data, their only response was “we have a strict 24 hour cancellation policy. We have to treat every customer the same or else it’s not fair”. So they are not refunding us for our $100 night stay- instead they are keeping our money for a service we did not use. Their policies are very black and white, and do not take into account that traveling can be unpredictable at times. Do not recommend this to place to travelers as they are not...
