My family stayed here for several days during our recent holiday.
The hotel is located near Taipei main station; in fact, the Taoyuan Metro airport express station is about 5-8 minutes walk away. The surrounding area is less messy (and quieter) than their other facility several blocks away.
The check-in process was smooth. The staff were generally friendly and helpful, not just during the check-in time but also when I interacted with them during our stay.
I had an Economy Double Room that's facing the road. However, since this is not a major road, the traffic noise is low and didn't bother me at night.
The room was clean, very nicely decorated, well lighted.
Unfortunately, the room was rather small. While there was sufficient space for moving around, there wasn't enough space for me to leave my luggage open. I could either open my luggage on the bed (which I preferred not to because of all the dust accumulated on the luggage after a long journey), or I could open it up on the floor right next to the door (in which case I would not be able to open the door at all). I had to get what I needed from my luggage and then close it up and move it somewhere else. I had to do this whenever I need something from my luggage.
There wasn't any wardrobe or storage space in the room. There was a rack where I could hang some clothes, a small drawer where I could put some small items, and nothing else. As a result, I had to keep all my stuff in my luggage and kept opening it to get stuff and then closing it and store it away.
There is a safe in the room, but it's a rather small one. I could not even place my 9-inch tablet flat, it had to be placed in a 45 degrees incline! Needless to say, I could not put my notebook computer inside.
The hotel provides two washing machines and two dryers for guests to use, free-of-charge. I've used them multiple times. While the washing machine worked without any problem, we had some problem with the dryers. the first time we used the dryers, our clothes took a long time to dry (more than 2 hours!). I later realised that I had to turn the timer knob back to zero and then turn it up to the desired duration before the dryer would work properly; the first time we simply turned the knob up from whatever it's current position. It would have been nice if they specify this (i.e. turn the knob back to zero) in their instruction.
The hotel does not provide any breakfast, but there are many food choices nearby; there's even a breakfast/lunch shop just across the street where you could sit down and have your meal.
Apparently, they only clean the room if you place the "Please make up room" sign on the room door. My habit is to always do so no matter what hotel I stay in, but one day we forgot to put up the sign and was surprised to find the room not cleaned when we return from our day out! We consider this a lapse of service.
Overall, we found the stay comfortable, and the room nice. We'd probably stay here again if it's a short overnight stay. For a longer stay, however, we would probably find another hotel with a...
Read moreMy review is only of the room (rm 703) I stayed at in this hotel. The hotel is 2 blocks from Z10 exit of Taipei Main Station and about 10 min walk from Ximending. A variety of foodstalls and convenience stores around the area of the hotel. I requested a high corner room with window (free from road noises) so I was placed at the top 7th floor. The room is a bit tight but adequate for my use (mainly for sleeping, as most of the time I'm out), the bed was queen size, comfortable, with soft duvet and 2 memory pillows; the room cleaned daily if requested (just put the magnetic sign at the door front), the complimentary bottled water and toiletries replaced daily, cable has 50+ channels but only a handful in English, smart tv also has VOD and adult channels (required code though you have to ask reception); no moulds at the walls and mirrors. Hot and cold shower was adequate and good water pressure, japanese-like bidet was a plus. There's complimentary green tea and 2 packets of biscuits available with the requisite hot water maker and cups&saucers. Internet was strong as router probably located near my room. Reception is at the third floor, so at the ground floor entrance, only the elevator can be seen. After 9 pm, the door electronically closes so you need your keyroom to open it before entering the elevator going up. I used the microwave at the reception area 3rd floor to heat leftover food I kept at the buddy ref in my room. There's a funky smell (sewer?) in my bathroom which I also smelled at the hotel entrance, but I remedied this by placing the small garbage bin over the drain pipe opening under the lavatory. Tip: no need to rent pocket wifi or buy a local sim, just use globe roaming if you're staying 5 days or less, you'll save more and roaming is adequate for using google maps and looking at sched of trains/buses. Received 2 emails from them which luckily I read late, stating that my confirmed reservation was in peril and that I need to update my details and payment (grammar was wrong, obviously phishing) then a third email actual from true management came, saying their servers were hacked. So be careful. The hotel needs to invest on a proper security for...
Read moreThis hotel oozes old world charm and brings you back to the 70s. If you're fond of such things and like a hotel in a somewhat central location, this is it!
Even though the building itself is old, it has been well taken care off. The lift makes you feel as if you've gone back in time and the moment you walk through the corridors to your room, you'll be able to experience just how special this place is.
Artwork adorns the walls and the words and colours bring it to life as you can see in my accompanying pictures. Once inside your room, more artwork on the walls make the room even more inviting. Even the soap and shampoo dispenser seem to have come from another era!
It's true the rooms might be a tad small for some people, ours could only accommodate 2 suitcases, so if you have more than that, do book a larger room. The bed was comfortable but unfortunately the pillows were too soft, as seems to be the case with other hotels these days.
You can do your own laundry for free as there's a washing machine and dryer provided and the hotel even provides liquid detergent for free. But note that the dryer takes quite awhile to do its job. I had to wait 1 and a half hours just to dry 10 pieces of clothing. But nevermind, I took my time sitting at their front lounge drinking their free coffee while waiting and you can even use their guest pc if you want.
There are many eating places and a convenience store just below the hotel and the Japanese restaurant serves cheap and good authentic food, The lady boss tells me she goes to Japan every year! The 7Eleven below has quite a good stock of items as well.
With Ximending and Taipei's main station just a few minutes walk from the hotel, I would heartily recommend this hotel if you're looking for a neat, classy old world charm...
