Initially, I thought this is the no.1 premium hostel in Taipei but I was disappointed and end up cutting short of my stay after 1/2 Nights (I do appreciate the refund).
Taiwan Youth Hostel is located in the Basement of an old building. The interior and storage space of the capsule is spacious and comfortable but in many other aspect, it didn't do particularly well. It is still close to the underground train stations & malls that allows brings you to the direct train track to the Airport but there is no lift access. There barely much notable food stalls around the hostel.
🤩 Highlights ➊ Capsule Interior Huge Cabinet with digital lock and side table that is useful only if you intend to use it. It is definitely spacious enough.
🙇🏻♀️ Downside ➊ No Towel Change No matter how long you stay, it will cost you $ to have it changed which is pretty shocking to hear. ➋ Bedroom Bleach Smell & Hair There was too much hair all over the floor, some in the capsule. I noticed they used bleach to mop the floor which smells so bad while I was sleeping in the morning. It is harmful for health and should never be used in a bedroom. ➌ Poor Ventilation AC ventilation is so weak that i started sweating inside the capsule (Mixed dorm) and at times it's too stuffy to breathe. I realise sleeping in a capsule underground is the worst idea a hostel can have. ➍ Price It's the most expensive hostel in Taipei but the value doesn't measure up. ➎ Extra Charges They will charge you left & right for many things including even luggage storage for a few days.. Despite being the most expensive hostel.
📨 Feedback • Towel change is a must for those staying at least a week. Please read up on bacterial growth on wet towels especially when your country weather is cold and the hostel is underground. • Stop using bleach meant for whitening clothes. Use proper floor detergent which is designed to kill bacterials.

Read moreI think this place should be closed until they make the necessary renovations to solve the problem of black mold that is dangerous for humans health. It is a well known neurotoxic and cancerigen. Clients and workers of this hostel are unknowingly exposing themselves to an environment that is damaging their health.
In the dorms, they painted the ceiling and pipes black so you won't notice anything. You can observe easily all the grids of the ventilation system are completely dusty. It seems they never clean the ventilation system.
This place is really moldy. You can smell it right when you go down the stairs. All this hostel is in a poorly ventilated basement. I got refunded and left.
Many joints between tiles in the bathroom are cracked open. There only have 2 low power exhaust fan for 2 showers to remove humidity. Completely insufficient. They try to cope this issue with a dirty deshumidifier. Consequently, the humidity level in this basement is way too high and you can see the black mold there and there.
Many places will tell you it comes from the humidity of the city and there is nothing that can be done. In all cases I witnessed in Taipei, it always comes from an issue of the (stupid and cheap) design of the ventilation system like here.
Also I have to ad this area of the city is extremely noisy and polluted. Not far away from an important highway. It is not really an area where you go out.
The irony of this hostel is that they expose the objectives of the "Global Sustainable Development" in their stairs and one of them is "good health and well being". For you own personal information, those goals are issues by the WEF, an international organization promoting depopulation. I think your...
Read moreI will start by saying that I have stayed here 3 times and was a loyal customer anytime I was in Taipei. The location is very good and amenities are nice BUT AFTER MY LAST EXPERIENCE I WILL NEVER COME BACK.
Firstly the front desk employee was so rude and took advantage of me as a foreigner. I had never experienced such behavior in Taiwan. I was here 3 weeks ago and late check out at 2pm was always $200NT but the lady at the desk decided to charge me $300NT and make up some excuse about how the sheet of paper at the front desk was wrong. Except I literally did the late check out 3 weeks prior for $200 NT so basically she stole $100NT from me and she got very aggressive.
Secondly, this time there were SO MANY MOSQUITOES in the dorm room. I killed 13 of them in just my sleeping pod alone. I woke up with so many bites on my legs and was very uncomfortable. There should be some kind of bug spray for the room because I have stayed at A LOT OF hostels in Taiwan and never experienced so many mosquito.
And it was clear that the mosquitoes have been an issue because there were 4 smashed mosquito bodies in the walls of my sleeping pod on the very first day I checked in. Which also means they aren’t cleaning the sleeping pods very good otherwise they would have cleaned the bloody mosquito bodies off the walls. So gross!
Overall I could forgive the mosquitoes (see pictures included) but I can’t believe the discrimination I faced by the lady who charged me more money than what the policy stated....
