I spend a lot of time in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Many times while crossing the iron bridge by foot (located on the west side of the Ping River about 100-200 meters south of the Diamond Riverside Hotel, I see a significant DISGUSTING discharge of brown to jet black water that runs into the Ping River at the SW corner of the iron bridge. Upon first glance, one would think this discharge is coming from the River Market restaurant, but it is actually coming from the Diamond Riverside Hotel through a good sized underground culvert. I have no idea whether it contains raw sewage but it is very disturbing and disgusting.||||This pollution of the Ping River is absolutely disgusting. Anyone with any concern for the environment should NEVER stay at the Diamond Riverside Hotel. The discharge culvert is located a good distance above the river level just south of the Iron Bridge and when in use, can be readily heard and seen by anyone nearby. I have also observed an oily sheen in this same area.||||I spoke to the lady at the front desk about this problem and warned her angrily I would write to TripAdvisor about this problem, and that it is unacceptable. If this hotel was located in the US or England or Australia or SIngapore or any number of other countries, it would be forced to stop the discharge and would be fined a large amount of money. || ||The hotel is using the Ping river as an open sewer. Do not stay here!!||||I also intend to contact the City of Chiang Mai and the Thai government about this problem. Shame on the Diamond...
Read moreThe hotel is very, very old and has never been maintained or upgraded in any way. Check-in personnel are not the most charming. Our room had a strong humidity/unpleasant odour, a good thing the windows open and we could ventilate. The room was spacious and had a large fridge with 2 free glass water bottles that are replaced by housekeeping every day. Breakfast was included but It's not very good, every day you have wonton soup, fried rice, noodles and vegetables, also watery scrambled or boiled eggs, sausages, toast, watermelon, tea or coffee. I lived off that fried rice and toast (waiting for the toast an adventure) with jam. The pool is dirty and there are no chairs to sit anywhere. The location is good close to everything. The best part of this hotel is the cleaning lady she's so sweet. If this review was useful or helpful in any way please give it a thumbs up. Thank you and...
Read moreAvoid. Better options nearby. Really run down and needs a good clean. Paint chipping off walls. Random holes in the walls and power sockets falling out. Wall hanging broken and falling apart with pieces of it lying in the room. Leaking toilet. Shower that screams at you before the water comes out. Green gunk stuck to the sink. Terrible "breakfast". Food left out and coagulated. Flies darting in and out of dishes. "Boiled" eggs that were undercooked. Seat cushions in the eating area are covered with a myriad of disgusting stains. No lounge chairs or shade by the pool. Dirty carpet covered in stains. Soap opened. TV from the 80's with no remote. Light switches that don't work. Terrible wifi. A few positives points - AC, lift and location but it's not worth staying here for those points. Also the room is big but when it's that dirty and rundown, large areas don't...
