Boy Blues Bar — Local services in Chiang Mai Province

Interesting little place for what it is. Located inside a Night Market, it's upstairs in a little area that was created for this bar it seems. It says that they have food but I never saw any food. I believe most nights they open at 7:30 and are open until about midnight. At this time they are closed on Mondays. The drinks are pretty standard fare. They showcase bands that are local, but have some amazing talent, especially when it comes to guitar playing. Drinks seem pretty cheap. Usually two bands play per night. It's a comfortable venue to watch some live rock music. One band was focused on mostly post 1990 Grunge music and forward. The other band was focused on mostly 80s era Hard Rock and Metal. They started out with hits by Dire Straits , Queen , Etc , but quickly devolved into a barrage of music by ACDC , the Scorpions , Metalica, Etc . Except for this odd version they presented of the 1960s hit, Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You, a song that SHOULD be despised by EVERYONE. The guitarist in this band is not to be missed, despite the music. He's phenomenal!

Update 29\12\2023 Have been out of the country since summer time and I'm now back in Chiang mai. Went back to the boy blues bar last night. Same great everything. The guitarist is still there with the band and he is not to be missed. Singer is also great. Sunday I think the bar is closed. Monday is open mic night. And there is music every other night as far as I know....

Not your normal location for a blue's bar. This place is sitting right above the Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai. Not saying I don't like it, but it was different. There are actually some upsides to the location. One, the smoke clears out quickly if the air circulates. Two, there is plenty of room to sit. The drinks were overpriced... at least a bottle of coke was. Equivalent of $1.40/bottle in a town where you usually don't pay more than 50 cents.

Now for the best part, the MUSIC. Very talented folks playing and the singing was good as well. There was a band already playing when I arrived and at 9:30, Boy stepped up and took the mic. Even though he probably plays every night, he looked like he was still having a great time.

This to me looks like the perfect place to hang out and enjoy great music when your friends want to go to the...

i may be biased but this is the best bar in thailand ever!! i have been coming here for years and have fallen in love with the staff...the place...the music and the relaxed chilled out lounge room style ambiance!!! set in a mezzanine style room above the kalare markets everyone is at home including single western females..it is not a girly bar and the drinks are reasonably priced...great bands everynight and free entry!! if you are after good blues music and a fun night out then this is the place!! the owner of the bar is 'boy' who is also a great guitarist and an animated cheeky 'charlie chaplin ' type character who puts a smile on every dial and makes one and all feel welcome!! i can see why this place rates so high on trip adviser so go check it out for yourself...you won,t be...
