The Chateau Chiang Mai Residence — Hotel in Chiang Mai Province

My experience at the Chiang Mai Residence completely ruined my stay in Chiang Mai.

1. Ants all over the front desk coffee area/water station and coming out of the bathroom sink into my room.

2. The entire lobby of the residence is taken over by an open air, unhygienic foot massage parlor run by strangers on Saturday nights.

3. Beds were stiff and the hot water on the shower was intermittent at best.

4. I had a film crew meeting in my apartment and the owner demanded my colleagues show him the footage. That is an invasion of privacy and completely out of line.

5. Heavy traffic noise from both the South gate street and Wu Lai Road.

6. Numerous cockroaches and rats at night on the street.

7. Stayed on the 7th floor with NO WORKING INTERNET (which the owner blamed on my bittorent but even after that was turned off, there was no wifi for me OR my neighbors). I was moved to the 6th floor where wifi still only worked 50% of the time (still with no bittorent).

8. The front desk staff were kind but the manager/owner was rude, tried to blame all of the problems with the residence on his guests, and I did not trust him to give me my money back. I had to get several friends involved as witnesses when there was a discrepancy with the electricity bill. Check his math- this is not an honest man. I stayed for only 3 weeks and paid 1950 baht in utilities. Given that I used one air conditioner at night while sleeping and spent my days at an internet cafe (because the wifi is so bad), this was obscenely high.

Ranges between a 2-3 star serviced apartment, the Chateau Chiang Mai offers generous sized 1 bedroom units with good sized bathrooms and even a bar.
