Foreign travelers BEWARE. Great hotel but the front desk doesn't have your best interests in mind.
This hotel should have gotten 5 stars and was well on its way to getting that rating. Check in was smooth, room and bathroom were incredible (one of my best rooms in Thailand). The location is probably the best in Chiang Mai, if you want location to old city and all the night markets. If I had a complaint with the room or location, it would be that the water in the shower is Luke warm to warm. Definitely not a hot shower. This didn't bother me enough to let the front desk know because everything else was incredible.
Now, why am I giving this hotel 3 stars instead of 5 then? Well, because I went to the front desk once, the day before I left. I wanted to find out if scheduling a taxi ahead of time would be worth the extra 20 or 30 baht. The woman at the front desk was pleasant and called her "taxi" then looked at me and said 250 baht. While this isn't a lot, it is when compared to Grab or Bolt. Almost double the fare of the other two. I ended up taking a bolt to the airport for 80 baht (so that is 3x the price) and i only waited 3 minutes after ordering, for them to show up. I mention this because as a foreigner that has lived in Thailand almost a year. I expect a little price gouge for the ferrang, but to charge three times the normal price is ridiculous. It is straight taking advantage of someone that doesn't know any better. So if I was to take a tour and have them arrange the taxi I'm sure what would normally be 2k-3k baht, could easily be 6k-9k baht.
If you need an amazing place to stay and can handle travel and planning on your own. This place is incredible. If you would like to have some of the convenience of having the hotel help plan and arrange travel, stay elsewhere. I highly recommend downloading Grab and Bolt if you are not familiar with Thailand and pay with card instead of cash so the drivers can't change the price. The apps are very user friendly. If you are a foreigner expect a little price raise, this is normal. To raise it three times is a scam and completely unacceptable. The gentleman behind the counter were always friendly and smiling. The woman was as well until I said that price was ridiculous and said I would handle...
Read moreWe stayed for 4 nights during the last week of December. The hotel is conveniently situated close to the Tha Phae gates and Ching Mai old city. Making it perfect location to explore the old city and walk around the ramparts. The hotel is a very basic hotel and perfect for guests who are looking for a no frills experience and is great value for money. The hotel is situated within a small lane, which makes it a bit tricky to locate, however, also makes it silent away from the main street. The room is fairly clean and comfortable. The furniture and the wardrobe is very dated, but still OK. The bathroom is good and they provide basic toiletries. Looks like the bathroom has been refurbished recently, thereby making it good. The hotel is also within a very short distance of the 7/11 which is very convenient. On one of the days, the road in front of the hotel was closed to facilitate a night market, which was an excellent experience. It appears that a night market pops up once a week, which is an added bonus.
The male staff member in the front desk during night hours is not very welcoming. However, the ladies who are their in the morning hours are very pleasant and welcoming. We arrived in the night, so the initial impressions wasn't great, but it remedied by the morning reception staff.
The room layout is slightly weird in the sense there is a cabinet and table which which is in the middle thereby cluttering up the space. The hanging lamp in close to the table is a healthy hazard as it is very low hanging and I bumped my head into it multiple times and I am not that tall to begin with. The lighting in the room can also be better.
Overall it serves its purpose and would definitely consider it as a base for a...
Read moreWe actually stumbled across this great hotel by accident when our previous hotel we original booked canceled without notice on us. We thought the size of the room was good for the both of us. The WiFi speed was excellent! It was consistent and never dropped or lagged. That was one major concern of ours with any hotel stay, and this one really surpassed expectations. The water pressure and shower temp was on point. The best I’ve come across and very modern design in the bathroom. The location is superb because it’s within walking distance to the Phea Gate, also tucked away as you keep exploring were beautiful shops of several handcrafted merchandise and clothing. 7-11 was also just pretty much across the street and 2 major banks if you ever need to access your account or send any funds through Western Union without limitations! There were great cafe’s just nestled along the street and a great self serve laundromat, which we used frequently because we just love doing our own laundry it was only $40 baht to wash and $40 baht to dry. The hotel has a laundry service, but we always just like doing our own laundry because we get to spend more time exploring while we wash and dry. The staff at the hotel were so kind and helpful! They made are stay even more pleasant. We never had any issues here and would definitely...
