Roti Pa Day
In front of Wat Mahawan, Thapae Road Soi 4, Chang Moi, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai, 50300, Thailand
It’s unusual to see a Michelin rated street food that sells roti, and mango sticky rice. To be rated, your roti and sticky rice must have something that’s others don’t have—be it technique or ingredient.
Anyway, this roti cart made it to the list and it doesn’t disappoint. Theirs is not the same as other rotis being offered in the streets of Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
First-timers should order the plain crispy roti with condensed milk to start. The roti dough here is uniquely made without eggs, but slowly cooked to a crispy-chewy perfection in coconut oil. Choose from 20 toppings.
They are open everyday from 5PM to 12MN in front of Wat Mahawan Temple. 😘
It’s a best way to start your dinner—start with a good dessert ala Pa Dae!
PS. I can still hear the European Lady telling her friends while passing by the cart: “Is that a Michelin?” 😆
I queued at around 5:30PM and got my order around 6PM. Haba ng pila.

AND...THE ROTI BATTER IS VEGAN. (That's what the Ladies told us). 29/11/18
Banana roti with a bit of "sweet milk". 20 baht. It's beautifully cooked each time. Crispy around the edges, soft in the middle. I always never wait till it cools I'm in such a hurry to devour it.
The Ladies that run this Roadside Food Stall are Beautiful. They always remember me...even if it's been months between visits. Their Traditional Dress is also a draw to eat here.
Yes, there can be a little wait.... That's because everybody wants one. That's because it's cooked fresh. That's because THEY ARE DELICIOUS. Enjoy.
Situated just outside Wat Mahawan on Tha Phae Road. At the corner of Soi 4. They start about 5P.M.
(Please use your manners and be polite. Last night I witnessed a person walk up and say, " Banana!!!" No Please, No Thank you. It's Rude and...
Read moreMichelin recommended hence packed with tourists. First thing to do is to figure out the “system”. Initially we thought we were smart to line up at both ends of the truck. Wrong. You have to locate a writing pad with numbered pages (that’s your queue). Where can you find it? It could be in the hand of a customer, or if the customer is kind enough to just take one page and return the pad to where it belongs, it should be next to a “big needle” located at the centre of the food truck. Write down what you want on the page and stick it on the big needle. Someone would pick up the orders in batch. After that, wait near the right hand side as they will eventually call your number and ask you to confirm your order and pay (before they make). The actual production was quite efficient. From paying to getting our roti took around 5 minutes, but the queuing took 30 minutes. 35 mins for Michelin - ok. But that’s probably my...
