Expensive, small portions and plain in flavour. Simply overpriced for what you get. Service wasn't too special either. If you don't want to read the details of my experience the conclusion is definitely do not eat here, go to May Kaidee, V. Napaphud or even Vegan Heaven instead if you're in the area. All close by and much bigger portions, better taste and HALF the price. May Kaidee is the best. Even the fancy places in town like Goodsouls are cheaper, tastier and serve much bigger portions.
At Asa I ordered a pea flower curry and rice. I was told they had no rice. Not a great start for a restaurant in Thailand, the rice capital of the world, and not a great indication of daily ingredients shopping. Anyway they offered to swap the rice for bread and I agreed, no problem. Then it arrived. Small bowl with a little pumpkin and coconut meat, and 2 tiny slices of bread. Really? These 2 slices are supposed to be equivalent to a bowl of rice? Anyway, time to taste the curry. In a word ... watery. Very watery. No spice and no intensity, though the pumpkin and coconut inside as well as the bread tasted fine. So I'm pretty unimpressed and not close to being full, and it was time to pay. All this was 150 baht by the way. Or so I thought. I was charged 170 baht, 20 baht extra because I substituted rice with bread! Now that's customer service. You'd think during covid and no tourists repeat custom would be important. How pleased did they think I was going to be with the experience of being charged for a forced substitution? Being asked to pay extra for something I didn't want.
I've lived here a long time and 170 baht for what I was served is insane. Having left with a lighter wallet I then had to go and find somewhere else to eat as I was still hungry. I won't return and unless there are serious improvements and I'd recommend you don't either. But...
Read moreThe staff was not welcoming and did not smile. And no one say thank you or even look at us when we left. The food? I ordered tempeh bowl(165baht)Poor quality for the price. The amount of tempeh was also very small. I think there were about 6 slices of tempeh cut in half, so total 3 slices. And the BBQ sauce for the tempeh was spicy, even though there was no chili in the menu description. For people with bad stomachs who can't eat spicy food, the menu should indicate that it contains chili. I had a stomach ache after eating this. The portions were also very small and I didn't feel full at all after eating it. I had a tempeh bowl almost same price(160baht) at earth tone in Pai, which had a lot of tempeh and was quite filling. Looking at the bad reviews on Google of Asa, there are many comments about the poor quality for the price, and many comments about the unfriendly staff, which I can 100% understand. Now high season in Chiang Mai but there's no one inside. The owner should seriously...
Read moreAn absolutely darling vegan cafe and yoga studio! The atmosphere is so cozy, calm and beautiful. It almost feels like you’re in someone’s living room! The Jack Johnson music playing really set a chill mood too
I ordered the breakfast set menu and a mango lassi! I LOVED this vegan breakfast set- very different flavors compared to most other vegan brekkie sets. They serve caramalized onions (which seemed steamed but were still tasty) with mashed avo, sliced apples (very refreshing), grilled tomatoes (again- these were barely cooked but they were good and fresh), scrambled tofu, purple roasted potatoes and a cute piece of sourdough bread. The flavors blended very well together!
My suggestions for improvement: The breakfast set flavors are amazing but it was not cooked/prepared well. Roasted potatoes were unbearably dry. The grilled tomatoes were warm and basically raw. Caramalized onions seemed steamed and came in a little bowl...
