Wat Mahawan — Attraction in Chiang Mai Province

The Most terrible massage I’ve ever had in Chiangmai. That lady’s techniques are quite crude and makes me painful. More importantly, the hygiene problem; compared to other chain stores’ 250thb/1hr, their 150thb/1hr body massage doesn’t have a process of washing your feet first before massage, even though she might doesn’t mind, but it’s really disgusting that she starts from my feet (which I have a temple tour whole day)then massage my neck and head. Furthermore, I think the massage clothes they gave me and towel I use are not new ones and had wore by others. Totally not recommended...

Costruito tra la metà e la fine del XIX secolo, questo Wat ha due stili di edifici. C'è un viharn e un ubosot costruiti in stile Lanna e poi c'è un viharn in mattoni e un chedi costruito in stile birmano, in più c'è un Ho Trai. Il viharn in stile Lanna è il viharn principale, con il suo imponente tetto a più livelli, è stato costruito nel 1865. Alle estremità dei bargeboard ci sono serpenti Naga. Sulla sommità dei tetti ci sono chofah, un uccello sottile decorativo, o Garuda. Alle scale che portano all'ingresso del viharn ci sono 2 Chinthe bianchi a guardia della sala. I pannelli in legno in stile Lanna sul timpano anteriore sono decorati con intagli dettagliati di divinità e motivi floreali in oro su sfondo rosso. Grandi colonne rosse laccate d'oro sostengono il tetto e sul retro del viharn su un piedistallo c'è l'immagine principale del Buddha seduto nella posizione sottomessa di Mara, che è circondata da diverse immagini di Buddha più piccole. L'ubosot in stile Lanna si trova accanto al viharn. C'è un cancello di accesso ornato da dettagliate decorazioni in stucco di esseri mitici e motivi floreali di Lanna. Il viharn in stile birmano è un edificio in mattoni costruito alla fine del XIX secolo e ospita una grande immagine di Buddha in stile birmano seduto. Dietro il viharn in stile Lanna c'è un attraente chedi birmano ornato con stucchi dettagliati. Questo chedi è racchiuso da un muretto con un grande guardiano Chinthe negli angoli. Al centro di ogni lato c'è una nicchia con un'immagine di Buddha in piedi affiancata da esseri celesti.
