HOSTEL: Beds - incredibly comfortable beds with wonderful white sheets. Bed space is large with towel rail, hook, plugs, light and curtain for privacy. Only addition which I would recommend to the beds is a little shelf would be useful. Overall I loved sleeping in these beds!
Room - stayed in the 8 bed mixed dorm room. Spacious with plenty of room for luggage. Air con and fans kept the room cool. Quite soundproof, the noise of the bar opposite did not disturb my sleep. Heavy curtains also protect from light so room is nice and dark for sleeping.
Facilities - free tea and coffee all day, kettle, toaster and fresh drinking water to refill your bottle. Common space area to chill out in, but closes at 10.30pm. Free WiFi, but not very strong and always cut out when in the dorm room, which was a bit annoying. Lockers to put valuable in and good size. Can book trips and ferries at the reception desk. Lots of showers, sinks and toilets to share so never had to wait. Big drying area for wet clothes/swimsuits very useful. Free bath towel provided.
Price - very reasonable price. About 400 per night for dorm room bed. Breakfast is 100 and there are 4 options (pancake, fruit/yoghurt, omlette or fried breakfast) - book the night before.
Cleanliness - incredibly clean! The staff are always cleaning! And they make up your bed everyday! It's like staying in a hotel. The service is so nice here!
Service - very friendly staff. Always helping to answer questions and provide tips for food/things to do etc.
Atmosphere - chill and friendly atmosphere. Nice place to hang out in. Rooms are quiet and other guests considerate and friendly.
Location - central to everything, right in the middle of walking street. Cafe below the hostel for breakfast too. Easy!
Overall: highly recommend this hostel in koh lipe.
CAFE: We ate breakfast everyday in the bloom cafe, as hostel guests get a discount (100 for breakfast). I tried all of the options and they are all really good! My favourite is the pancakes with bacon, eggs and maple syrup. And the fruit/yoghurt/toast breakfast. Coffee is also excellent (100 for latte or cappuccino). And fruit smoothies (150). Really nice atmosphere in the cafe, with good music and service is fast and friendly. If you don't stay in the hostel, at least go there for breakfast! They have a big menu with lots of...
Read moreHad an awful experience at the cafe. Overpriced for poor quality food and bad service.
Quesadillas - The cheddar cheese tasted like dairy lee so asked to swap out the cheese. I asked for mushrooms and they said yes. When no mushrooms came I asked to not pay full price as 250baht is a lot for a plain quesedilla and plain ham. The manager said I was a "liar" that we'd never discussed mushrooms.
She began shouting at us and all the customers stopped to watch as she called every other member of staff to come over crowd around us whilst speaking in Thai with accusatory pointing and staring at us. Felt very intimidated. I had said I felt awkward complaining but that it was very bad for a high cost.
She kept shouting and talking to other members of staff while we politely asked the till staff member to just take the full amount because this situation was horrible. I told the manager that she was making me feel very uncomfortable and threatened so just to be able to leave without further intimidation I will unhappily pay full price.
I did and as we walked out I told her I'm very disappointed and the manager shouted "yeah? Well, me too!"
Fair to say that she should be disappointed.. in herself, for awful customer service, terrible behaviour, her inability to show a good example to her staff and the embarrassment of serving such below par food and making a scene.
(For reference I'm a chef and have many years experience in hospitality. I would be ashamed to ever have that happen in my...
Read morePROS -The beds were very comfortable, very sturdy preventing any wiggling when the bunk mate would move and each bed had nice privacy curtains, 1 power outlet and a light. -There were small drawers underneath the beds to store some things one needed everyday, while the large lockable lockers where located in the hallway. -It was nice that they offered free water, coffee, tea and cookies. -Towels were replaced daily, if hung on the holder at the end of the bed and bedsheets were also replaced daily. -Showers had free shower gel and shampoo. -The restroom/showers were always kept very clean and the waste bins were emptied multiple times a day.
CONS -One thing I found absolutely unacceptable was that the cleaners used the dorm to take a nap! This happened early in the morning from 9-10 when they were supposed to be changing the sheets for the next guest, they just laid down for an hour to nap! -The size of the first shower and first toilet stall is horrible. -1 of 2 showers has no hooks to hang anything, not even a towel, and both showers and all toilet stalls have no light. Both things are simple and fairly cheap fixes. -2 sinks for the amount of beds in the hostel is simply not enough. I suggest getting rid of the 1 urinal and adding...
