On my initial arrival - I was allocated a room quite oppressive in layout, with no soft furnishings, giving a stark first impression, along with single glazed Windows, allowing in far too much noise from outside. The proximity of building works at this time is creating more noise than ever, so I feel the hotel must make it a priority to upgrade the glazing. Another room was found which was more acceptable, facilitated by the excellent Mr Phwarin who continued to ask after my needs throughout my 12 day stay, always being kind and considerate to make my stay a very happy one - please recognise his excellent service to me. I found the bed excellent, the decor of comfortable carpet, wooden shutters and an old image of Siam very pleasing, and the kitchenette facility - especially a microwave and family sized fridge freezer SO useful. I did not find the bathroom particularly nice - the toilet with heated seats was so outdated and simply flushing it without having to depress a tiny little handle would be better. The products for guest use are very cheap - I stayed at the Conrad two years ago and found their room amenities divine. Squeezing into the shower cubicle and having to stand in cold water, waiting for the hot water to come through as there is no facility to divert the water away from the shower head until the right temperature is reached! Is not very pleasurable. The robe hung up for my use had holes in it and was grey from over washing. This was replaced once I brought it to the attention of staff - but I should not have had to do that. This again gave a poor impression to me initially. The pool area is functional. But only 10 sun loungers, two of which are torn and unusable. The parasols cannot be moved to block out the sun, so unless the sun was directly overhead, they offered no protection. The loungers cannot be adjusted either, so I could not sit up comfortably to read my book - I had no choice but to lie back. Anyone wanting to lie face down to tan their back, could not. The pool water is a bit cold. Once you got in, you got used to it, but I gasped each time I got in. The male pool attendant on duty most days was always smiling and happy which I appreciated. But the hotel fails to offer cold towels or a drinks service poolside, which is unusual of a hotel of this caliber. The complimentary drinks offered in the foyer were nice, but small servings in cheap paper cups gave a poor impression. Also, they are available only between 7am-7pm. Why is this? For travellers convenience (often awake very early or in the middle of the night) - it would have been nice if I could have popped down to get a hot chocolate at 10pm or at 6.30am after my morning swim. Security of the hotel was excellent, floor lifts efficient and the floor landing areas clean and quiet. Over all I think there is some upgrading to be done, for the Grande Centre Point Ploenchit to keep up with the quality of neighbouring hotels - Athenee, Conrad,Okura, Indigo - as the positioning on Wireless Road is the best in Bangkok in my opinion and I will always stay in this area. I would consider staying here again, particularly for a longer stay. Thank you. I enjoyed my stay and please recognise the pool staff, the housekeeping staff and Mr Phwarin in particular for outstanding...
Read moreYour hotel claimed to be a five-star one, but my sons said you deserved only two stars. Even children could tell what problems you had got.
I booked your hotel through Cathay Holidays. We stayed in a one-bedroom suite with twin beds. I had requested an extra bed with an extra cost to accommodate my wife, who had booked her air ticket separately.
We arrived shortly after 1 pm on 24 August 2018. Your front desk staff were polite and helpful and they helped us through the check-in procedures very quickly.
When we stepped in our suite, we found the suite bright, but not as big as your photos showed. The twin beds were very small and could not accommodate an adult and a child. An extra bed was put in place, but no extra amenities. That's very strange!
To our surprise, the towels in the toilet were all grey! Not natural grey in colour, but because of insufficient washing. That annoyed us very much!
Then there were stains on the pillow case. Okay. We turned it upside down to avoid contacting the stains.
Then, to our biggest annoyance, there were stains on the tea cups! Could you imagine a five-star hotel with stained tea cups!
We put these two cups aside with the trash on the table, hoping that your house keeping staff would notice this problem. The following day when we returned to the hotel after hanging out, the stained tea cups were put back. The stains were still there. I could not put up with this any more, so I took these two tea cups to the front desk to speak to your duty manager.
I told all the above problems to him. He listened attentively and apologised, and he offered to wave my extra bed charge. I told him that was not my objective and I wanted to be treated in a five-star manner, as I had paid for such.
Since I was already in the front desk, I told the duty manager another unpleasant experience in your restaurant when I had breakfast in the morning of 25 August. We were ushered to a table that was not readily laid out. Your staff asked us to take our food while they were laying out the table. I thought that you should never lead your customers to the table if it is not yet ready. Then I discovered that a chair was heavily stained. I told the manger this. He seemed unmoved, and used his hand to swipe the stains and gestured to me to sit. I insisted changing a chair. He reluctantly moved a chair from a nearby table and replaced the one in front of me. Then he said, "Okay?" in a tone as if I was a trouble maker. He did not apologise. I did not complain that moment, but I had told the duty manager after telling him all the problems that you had.
By the way, I had seen many customers of yours put their feet on the sofa they were sitting in in the lobby. Your staff did not intervene, which made your hotel look like a slump area filled with refugees.
After all, your room was disappointing. Your services were not up the stand and our stay had been a very unpleasant one!
We shall return to Bangkok, but surely we will not...
Read moreWe stayed at the junior suite and the room was fantastic. We were provided with daily refresh of complimentary minibar snacks. The hotel property was really nice with swimming pool, gym and business lounge.
We had an unfortunate incident during which one of our guest vomitted over the room carpet. I applaud the hotel staff for quickly attending to it at 2am in the night. They brought over the necessary vacuum machines and quickly sanitised the area for us to continue our stay. HOWEVER, they slammed damage charges of THB 5000 the following night. When we went to inquire about this, the lady at the front desk (did not get her name) rudely responded that there would be no negotiations and we have to pay. We did not argue further and decided to speak to the line manager the following day. We had to catch a flight at 11am but the manager only started work at 8am. We reached the front desk at 7:30am and requested to speak to the manager but we were not allowed and was asked to wait. I extended my airport taxi to 8:30am and waited for the manager. He arrived and very politely attended to us. He was clearly in the negotiation mood and helped us to bring down the cost to THB 2000. We agreed but insisted on the fact that these damages were purely an uncontrollable mistake. An upset stomach caused my friend to vomit. We ordered room service the same day and it could have been from that - We are not sure but we did not blame the hotel for it as it could have been circumstancial. I would've happily taken the blame if it was something in our control but leveraging the health issue of vomit to raise such exorbitant charges is unacceptable. Had we checked out early and not waited for the manager, we would've been forced to pay the THB 5000. Luckily the morning traffic was not bad and I could afford delaying my airport taxi by 30mins.
Another quick note - the room service was very slow. Our order arrived after 45mins which was just two simple fried rice dishes. Not sure what took them so long. After waiting for so long, I decided to head down to check if it was crowded and it was completely empty. The person just apologised and ask me to wait a few more minutes.
Just this one bad experience tainted my ratings otherwise it would've been...
