Was not impressed by this recommendation. I am no pro in dining but know enough when food is not up to par. Let’s start with the curry crab, medium size is tiny! Look at the photo compared to my glasses. This is what other countries call small or used in pot noodles not served as medium crab signature dish. Crab is definitely not fresh, the meat has started to soften, manager said it was fresh, in the morning. Well let’s just say it’s central kitchen standard since Samboon is a chain , I am not surprised if it’s quickly reheated with some spring onions. Samboon should be ashamed for serving dishes like this to scam tourists.
Ordered some basic steamed buns to dip up the sauce, 饅頭, jeez they were tiny, like the crab? The size of a majong which I think is unacceptable.
Next dish, asparagus and scallops, hmmm scallops and asparagus must be expensive or scarce because the portion was small.
Tom Yum Soup was ok. Oyster and egg on hot plate was good.
Prawn salad was good portions and taste.
Prawn in clay pot with rice vermicelli was good but again I am suspicious of the prawns freshness because the meat is kind of soft and mushy.
Service was poor, the men managers generally seemed moody and obvious disliked their job, the waitress were fresh and spoke little English , the lady manager knew what i was talking about when i complained, served crab without the proper tools, this is amateur grade service.
Seems a lot of tourists are coming, adverts working good but Samboon not living up to its rep. Over hyped and under delivered. Stay away from Central Embassy branch since there are plenty choices for better value. I will not be returning again and will tell people to stay away from Samboon...
Read moreIf you're in Bangkok and craving some top-notch seafood, Somboon Seafood at Central Embassy is the spot to hit. Located on Level 5 of the swanky Central Embassy mall, this place is all about serving up fresh, flavorful dishes in a comfy setting.
First off, their Fried Curry Crab is a must-try. The crab is cooked to perfection, smothered in a rich, slightly spicy curry sauce that's downright addictive. Pair it with some steamed rice, and you're in for a treat. Another favorite is the Goong Ob Woon Sen—prawns baked with glass noodles. The noodles soak up all the savory juices, making each bite a burst of flavor. And don't miss out on the steamed sea bass with soy sauce; it's delicate, tender, and melts in your mouth.
The vibe here is relaxed yet bustling, with a mix of locals and tourists digging into their seafood feasts. The staff is friendly and quick on their feet, ensuring your dining experience is smooth and enjoyable. Since it's a popular spot, especially during dinner hours, it's a good idea to call ahead and reserve a table to avoid waiting.
Prices are reasonable, considering the quality and location. Plus, being in Central Embassy means you can easily pop in after some shopping or exploring the city. The restaurant is open daily from 11:00 AM, with the last order at 9:00 PM, so you've got plenty of time to plan a visit.
In short, if you're after some of the best seafood Bangkok has to offer, Somboon Seafood at Central Embassy should be high on your list. Delicious food, great atmosphere, and a convenient location—what more could...
Read moreA Disappointing Experience at Somboon Seafood (Central Embassy)
I’ve been a fan of Somboon for over 12 years now. However my recent visit to their branch in Central Embassy left much to be desired, and I can't help but feel let down by the overall dining experience. I arrived about an hour before closing and from the moment I stepped in, I felt I wasn’t welcome, the atmosphere and the staff lacked the inviting charm that you get so familiar with in Thailand.
We ordered dishes that we had before from other branches so we could really tell that the dishes were poorly executed.
The Seafood Tom Yum Soup, often a benchmark for Thai restaurants, was underwhelming. The broth might have been from the bottom of the pot because it was thick and extremely salty.
Next up was the Thai Lime Steam Sea bass which we were hoping to be the redeeming dish. Our hopes were dashed. The gravy was blend and has no impact at all. Fish was not that fresh as well.
We wanted a noodle dish and was recommended the goose-feet noodles. It was terrible. The noodles were over cooked and the sauce was just soy and dark sauce.
The surprising best dish of the night was a simple stir fried oyster sauce asparagus. It was fresh and went well with the sauce.
In all honesty, my experience at Somboon Seafood fell far short of what I expect from them. From the lackluster dishes to the subpar service, it's clear that there's a gap in consistency among the different branches. I will go back to the branch in Surawong...
