Good, cheap, clean and conveniently located. Khao san road is overrated. This place is more ideally situated, in my opinion, if you plan to check out other areas (Walking distance to Hua Lamphong, which is nice, should you be looking to check out the Weekend Market to the north). But be aware that in order to avoid confusing your cabbies, Grabs, tuk-tuks, etc., it's best to get picked up and dropped off at the 7-11, around the corner. The hostel itself is tucked away in an alley, and mapping apps don't appear to get the location right on a reliable basis.
As for the quality of our stay, we booked a double room. First night, we saw the granddaddy of all roaches emerge from beneath our bed, and it put us off a little; however, as we came to learn through observation, roaches are extremely common in Bangkok. It's a big city, with food stalls and food waster right up to the edge of buildings. This was the only time we witnessed any sort of critter in our space. Wouldn't be concerned, if I were you. More mentioning it to tailor expectations about the city to which you're traveling.
Never did take advantage of breakfast, but it looked pretty sparse. That said, you really shouldn't be eating at your hotel/hostel if you're in Thailand. Things are cheap (especially if you come from a place using USD/Euro/Pound ). Get out of bed, stroll down the road, and enjoy the culinary scene for a fraction of what breakfast costs in your home country!
Would I stay here again? Yes. I don't too much care about luxury, and the space was functional, clean, and convenient.
Oh, bring earplugs, though. Things start hustling and bustling bright and early. So if you like to sleep in, you'll be glad you...
Read moreWe reserved a room at Rooftop in advance, and it was such a great choice. The location is good — just 15 minutes’ walk from the train station and MRT — and it’s in a pleasant residential/commercial area, with two beautiful wats nearby.||||Our room is clean and spacious enough for a couple used to occupying a wide range of accommodations. Everything is in good shape — nice linens, the bathroom is perfect with everything working well. There’s clean storage and a small refrigerator. Air conditioning works, too, which is great in the current sultry-hot season. ||||The kitchen and dining area on the roof are fantastic, a great place to make your own simple meals — lots of pots and pans, dishes and hot plates. Tables and chairs are placed to give you a great view of the city. The breakfast , which is included with your room, is a generous selection laid out for you — bread, eggs, margarine, jams, tea, coffee, milk, cornflakes and fresh fruit. There are toasters and egg cookers with instructions for making eggs the way you like them.||||Must of all, it’s the staff who make this such a great place to stay. Jum, Son and the other ladies are kind, warm and helpful . They’ll give you a map and show you good places to go. Their gentle hospitality really makes you feel welcomed...
Read moreStayed here from 5-9 April with 3 friends so we chose the family room for 4, if I wasn’t mistaken. It’s located in Mangkon alleys and it’s not in Grab, but the neighborhood is pretty well-lit at night and it’s located near to a 7-11. It’s not very near (around 1 km) to the nearest MRT station but there are nearer bus stops.
The room was very comfortable, we had two separate cubicles. Each had a clean mattress, two pillows, and two duvets (best part, honestly!!!). We had lockers to store our belongings in along with the keys. The room also has a hairdryer, soap, and shampoo, which we did not really expect. The bathroom has hot water for shower and bidet, which was nice. The air conditioner was cold and honestly I would stay here again if only it was nearer to the MRT stations.
Breakfast was provided and it was self-service. They provide eggs, milk, bread, instant noodles, fruits, jams, coffee, sugar, water along with the cooking utensils. After eating, you must clean up and wash your own dishes. The place also has a laundry where you insert coins to get the machine going and you can hang up your clothes afterwards on the clothing line. The receptionist was also very helpful and additionally, there was an elevator as the hotel was located on the 6th floor. Wi-fi...
