We stayed here for a week at the end of August in 2023. Overall I would say this hotel is very very nice. The service from the employees was top-notch and very quick and attentive when we needed anything. The buffet breakfast that we paid for was definitely worth the value for what you get. The buffet breakfast had a ton of different cultural options to choose from with Indian food, American breakfast, European style breakfast options, Indian food, egg station, bagels, fruit, a wide array of breads, tons of juices to choose from, and a coffee station that they bring to you.

For myself, the highlight of the entire breakfast buffet is the braised beef in the udon soup area. I ended up taking some of the braised beef and broth from the braised beef and making that the soup base, adding some mushrooms, some chives, some spices and some seaweed and other things, and had a really nice broth soup from it every day, it was phenomenal.

The pool is very nice and clean. You can relax and view all of the city of Bangkok and order drinks and food to your chair.

Anytime we needed to go somewhere we could have the concierge at the front go down to the street and hail a taxi for us. This was convenient and helpful, but had mixed results pricewise. For instance, one time we had a taxi ride quoted at 200 baht to go to the grand Palace then another time it was 500 to go to the airport. These are non-metered rates that were negotiated. I know this is still really cheap, but I think for an airport trip it should be around 350 to 400 baht. The good thing is you start to learn how much a taxi cost and you can do your own negotiations if you don’t put the meter on. There are also lots of tuk-tuk driving by this area so you can easily go down and get your own tuk tuk and negotiate a rate there.

Some of the issues we had in our room which were addressed immediately included our air-conditioning in the front living room area, failing, and then the bedroom air-conditioning, failing as well. Technicians came immediately and fixed them both on different occasions. Both of our TVs were very dim and hard to see so we had technicians come and load settings profiles from the USB drives onto the TV, which fixed everything in both rooms and the TVs are nice and clear for the duration of our stay.

We stayed in one of the residential suites which was great because it also included a washer dryer combo, which allowed us to do laundry before the second leg of our trip.

The location of this hotel is very good because it’s on a very main drive which does get crowded but it’s also convenient for getting to other places. Also right across the street is a big C mini market so that you can buy drinks or snacks a short walk away are some temples and...

Overall, great property with friendly and warm staff, spectacular views from rooms and infinity pool on the 18th floor, and consistently tasty food from each restaurant. I would definitely stay here should I ever be back in Bangkok.

Positives and negatives of my stay: As a platinum member, was upgraded to a fabulous suite overlooking the pool on the 18th floor. The executive presence, decor, and layout of the room were perfect.

Our server Maithai at the M lounge was by far the friendliest, most attentive staff member at the hotel. He remembered my groups drink preferences, made small talk which made us feel welcomed, and answered all of our questing (which we had a lot of).

Staff at the lobby were very kind to let taxis know to use meter and how much the trip should cost us. Unfortunately, taxis in Bangkok always say their meter is broken so they can overcharge you.

Yao rooftop bar had AMAZING views, perfect music, and tasty drinks. The bar manager (I think) from Turkey was super cool and a delight to speak to. The ambiance was perfect and just what you would expect.

Since we went with a group, we were placed on different floors. For security reasons, you only get access to your floor and the pool. It was an inconvenience having to meet at the pool just to go to another parties room. Minor but still annoying.

Yao restaurant is below Yao rooftop so it shares some of the beautiful views. We opted for the more expensive tasting menu. For two with drinks, we paid about 10,000 baht. The food was very monotoned with sweet and tangy sauces coming in about a third of the plates. Some of the plates came out shortly after we finished one but others took a longer. We must have been served by the entire staff because it was always someone different. My biggest complaint was that for a tasting menu with about 7 items, only one person explained what we were about to eat. We were also left alone for quite some time without anyone checking in on us. There is lots of room for improvement...

(August 2022 Review)

Down one star in all areas since my previous trip in June 2022.

My stay in August 2022 was noticibly different. During a five day stay we left our room twice and the room was not made, perhaps lack of housekeeping staff to accommodate the influx in guests? Secondly and most important aspect for us was the Thai food has gone way downhill.

The Thai dishes were authentic and well cooked in June. This was surprising for a western hotel and was a huge selling point for my Thai wife and myself. Unfortunately the revamped Thai menu has lost touch with reality, the crispy wonton pad Thai? I have never seen that locally, the gigantic beer battered pork jerky. Maybe in Texas but never seen that huge elephant sized strips of inedible meat In Thailand.

The executive floor Thai food has also gone downhill in terms of taste and authenticity. Perhaps the previous F&B manager left?

Overall the rooms are still good value and size, the pool area and gym are nice and most importantly the team is very well trained.

I will have to skip this Marriot for a while and visit the JW Marriott next time I'm in town.

(JUNE 2022 Review)

My new most favorite Marriot Hotel.

Why?

The team are very welcoming and go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and convenient.

Executive floor access has stunning views, super friendly team to greet and serve. Not to mention the best food I've had at any executive lounge

Breakfast amazing

Sunday brunch amazing.

Infinity pool is stunning and also has surprisingly delicious food.

The only criticism I have is that the pool chairs are a bit stained and dirty. Would love to see these be replaced more frequently just to be more comfortable at the pool. It's not too expensive either.

I have extended my stay three times, unfortunately I must leave in a few days but I will miss this hotel and can't wait to return.

Well done team!...

The look from the outside, this Hotel building is just an ordinary building, like an office building, but inside, I didn't expect this hotel has such a beautiful garden; it is the best venue to have an open-air garden party. Marriott Surawongse is famous for the infinity pool on social media, but the garden has melted my heart. The ground floor can host indoor and outdoor events; the second floor is private rooms connected to the breakfast venue. The third floor is the open air, I love it so much. Deluxe King Room is excellent and cozy, but not too spacious, but it's okay. We were mainly out for shopping and sightseeing. The breakfast is excellent, with lots of food options to choose from, and the venue is beautiful; the ambiance was excellent, with hip design and surrounding with beautiful paintings on the wall. What makes me rate four stars instead of 5 stars is because : -The toothbrush is an empty box, so I have to call for the toothbrush. The toothbrush is low quality, and after one use, the brush is damaged. I throw it away after use, and I expect to replace it with the new one. But, it didn't happen, so I have to call again in the evening for the new toothbrush. My conclusion is the housekeeping lacking of eye detail or has no clear SOP for them. -The pool is small with a cozy lounge, is like a boutique style. I like it so much, I feel so relaxed and can enjoy my lazy time. But only one person in the swimming pool bar, and no acknowledgment when I enter the premises. No approach for the services, so I change my mind, not to order a drink. As the five stars hotel and is Marriott Hotel, I expect to get better services and at least a bottle of mineral water in the pool.

I stayed at the Bangkok Marriott the Surawongse for 4 nights which I booked with the Marriott Bonvoy mobile app. It was enjoyable. The staff were always friendly and helpful. I can find no fault with the impeccable service even though I was denied help microwaving some food. I’m assuming the hotel didn’t want to risk a guest getting a food-borne illness (which I understand). I would consider staying with Bangkok Marriott the Surawongse again. I booked the King Guest Room which was kept clean throughout my stay. An extra box of tissues was even provided as requested. Points to the housekeeping team for that. 👍🏻 There were universal power points so you don’t have to worry about your electronics. The hotel is rather new. The only suggestion I have is to install more switches and a dimmer for better control of the lights. I need a little bit of light on when I travel so I had to rely on the bathroom lights which I allowed to peek out. Perhaps there was a nightlight that I missed. The breakfast buffet also had a wide spread. The team made sure to make some changes to the fare each morning. There was even chirashi don, oden, natto and miso soup. You’ll also find egg and noodle cooking stations. Now, on to the amenities. The pool is sufficient, as is the gym. Don’t expect to be able to swim or plan to squat or deadlifts. The one downside is the hotel’s location along Surawong Road. It is about a 20-minute walk to closest BTS station, St Louis. The hotel helpfully provides a shuttle service to Saladeng BTS station. There is no transport back from the BTS station to hotel though. Book a ride on Grab or get your steps in with a walk.
