Yào Restaurant — skyline views, tableside theatre, and Cantonese done with polish
Perched atop the Bangkok Marriott The Surawongse, Yào pairs postcard cityscapes with a dining room dressed in refined, old-Shanghai touches—dark wood, lacquered screens, and a hush fit for business dinners and special occasions. It isn’t hectic; you can even book a private room (mind the minimum spend). One quirk: restrooms are few, so plan intermissions.
The food
Classic Chinese (Cantonese-leaning) and dim sum done with hotel-level finesse: clean, layered flavors and premium ingredients, presented with care. Peking Duck is the headline act—carved tableside, the skin properly crackling and served with all the fixings. Build the rest of the meal with a mix of a richer plate (braise, crispy pork) and a steamed fish/veg to keep things light.
Service & pace (updated)
Service is generally soft-spoken and polished, with enough ceremony to feel special. That said, it can be surprisingly hard to flag a server—I’ve raised a hand more than once without being noticed (or… noticed and not approached), which is deflating at this price point. When the team is at your table they’re gracious and precise; between courses, attention can lapse and pacing may slow at peak hours.
Value
Pricing is premium, as expected for the setting—Marriott members can usually take ~30% off food (drinks excluded), which helps.
⸻
Pros • Panoramic views and a quietly luxurious room • Tableside Peking Duck with proper theatre • Balanced, polished flavors; upscale ingredients • Private rooms for client/family dinners • Generally calm, conversation-friendly vibe
Cons • Hard to flag staff at times; attention dips between courses • Few restrooms for the floor • Premium pricing
Tips • Reserve the duck and choose your second-course prep for the meat. • If you anticipate frequent assistance, request a table near a service station (or ask about a call button). • Time it for sunset into night—the skyline sells the room.
Bottom line: Not a reinvention of Chinese cuisine, but a near-Michelin polish on classics with view-driven drama. Come for the duck and the skyline; expect mostly excellent service—with the caveat that getting a server’s attention can...

Now onto our star of the show, food! Let me take you through the highlights of our culinary journey and our brief impressions on each dish.
We started with the flavorful Asparagus, bursting with taste, followed by the mouthwatering Flat Noodles with Wagyu Beef, which impressed us with its rich flavors.
The Spiced Fried Chicken with Cashew became my favorite, offering the perfect balance of spice and crunch.
While the Snow Pea Fish lacked some flavor on its own, it became appetizing with soy sauce.
Of course, we couldn't miss out on the Jasmine Rice, showing our love for rice in every way.

We ordered just one dish—the Peking Duck—and it was more than enough to leave us completely satisfied. The restaurant offers a choice between Thai style or Hong Kong style preparation. I went with the Thai style for that signature crispy skin, and it was absolutely worth it.
The presentation was spectacular. The duck was carved right in front of us, with a dramatic touch of smoke straight from the kitchen. Each serving came with creative accompaniments like sauces, lychee yam, caviar, and salmon roe—an incredible mix of flavors that made every bite memorable.
They also prepared a comforting duck soup broth with vegetables, and for just a small additional cost (THB 200), we could choose two more duck dishes in different styles—amazing value for the experience.
To pair with the meal, we had Jasmine tea, recommended by their professional tea advisor, which elevated the entire dining experience.
A special thanks to K. Jim Jam and K. Dream for their attentive and outstanding service. The private party rooms also looked stunning—perfect for hosting an elegant dinner in the future.
We’ll definitely be back!
Revisited the restaurant for my sister’s birthday. Honestly one of the best services ever by K.Goi and her team. Very happy every time I come here. All of the staffs were very kind and helpful. They were very nice. Hats off...
