Where to start. Some of my complaints about apt 5 in the annex go from the serious to the minor but all added up to one of the worst rooms I have stayed in (and I don't stay in fancy places).||• Opened the blinds and two men in underwear were 4 metres away in the building opposite lying on their bed staring at us (blinds had to be kept closed. ||• There seems to be no fire escape from the building I don't know how you would get out. I spent most of the night waking up thinking of this as the only access is a spiral staircase. ||• The terrace is not private as advertised for apt 5, anyone can access it and indeed did while we were there at night time. Also, it just has some seats and no shelter so you would be boiled alive during the day.||• The electrics in the room was not adequate, the kettle could to even reach so we had to put it between the beds. The socket in the bathroom was coming off the wall.||• No glasses in the room and when I lifted one of the coffee cups it was sticky and stuck to the saucer. ||• The beds are of very cheap quality and you get one very thin blanket. The third bed was an even cheaper camp bed it barely took the weight of our bag on it. ||• While it was warm in the room we had to turn off the aircon as it blew directly on the beds and indeed my friend got cramp in both legs because of it. ||• They supply shampoo and other things in the bathroom but there is no where to put them in the shower as the holder is rubbish and they just fall through, ||• The pedal bin in the bathroom was broken and no toilet roll on the holder (why was the holder there then?). The sink was tiny you can hardly fit anything on it and it was hard to even wash your hands, nowhere to put towels apart from 2 hooks on the back of the door but then there was nowhere to put a hand towel which we just put hanging on the sink door. ||• Noise at night was a nightmare, the door are heavy and metal and you can hear every person coming and going. ||Has anyone who works in the hotel actually stayed in this room??||||We were booked in for four nights and had to stay the first night as we had arrived late. We went out to get food but the area around it does not welcome tourists (especially at night) and when we moved hotels we felt a lot safer. We left immediately after breakfast which wasn’t great either, to be honest (But not the worst). ||||The annex apt 5 was not cheaper than the main hotel and I chose it solely on the terrace but it was a complete waste and it does not look like it does in the pictures on the website.||||I have never walked out of a hotel before and I have tried contacting the hotel to address my concerns but I have had no response which is disappointing as the staff did seem nice. Maybe the main hotel was nice but there was no other room to move to so it wasn’t an option. We moved to a nicer area near the main mosques and it wasn’t any more expensive than this hotel. I had come from travelling around Georgia and this was much worse than any...

I really hate to give this hotel such low grade cause the staff really really tried to give good service and some aspects of the are really great, however the over all experience did not live up to my expectation of a 4-star hotel. Breakfast and the view The internet connection was limited in our room. The internet went down from time to time and we were not able to even use skype. This was strange cause our door was only 4 meters from the lobby. The area, the hotel is situated in a sketchy area of town.. During the day and afternoon is OK but at night, when the stores closes, it feels a little bit off. For backpackers and the adventurous traveler I think its good, but I would not recommend this for a family with small children. You do not get a hotel key for the hotel itself, you have to press a button and one or sometimes two guys are coming to open the door. The surveillance camera outside the hotel would not make much difference if someone is chasing you or following you. The cleaning. The cleaning of the hotel is good, however we put up a sign on the door to not disturb and yet the hotel cleaned our room, throwing away things that were not supposed to be thrown away. That is a big no no for me. A hotel should not throw away things before asking. When we mentioned this the hotel said that they were going to talk to the cleaning staff but after a day of waiting we had to ask again and still they hadn´t spoken to them. We spent another day in Istanbul and came back in the afternoon for our bags and asked once again. The hotel then said they indeed had thrown the things away (some plates and bathroom things) but they offered us to go out and buy new ones and they would pay the costs for the plates (which was nice but not an option since we had to leave for our flight)

Conclusion: I really think that the staff had the best intention in mind however something went wrong anyway. I wouldn´t recommend families with children to stay here. But if you do not need internet and appreciate a good view, this hotel is worth...

Went there in June 2019 and it was the worst experience of my Turkey trip. Do not be deceived, THIS IS NOT A HOTEL. This is at best a bed and breakfast. My wife and I stayed for one night only and it was one too many. No proper concierge, no lifts, and no proper rooms.

This accommodation is located in a very sketchy part of Istanbul and to my shock and horror, a taxi driver warned me that we are in one of Istanbul's 'ghetto'! We drove through dark and secluded alleys for up to a kilometer that even the driver was uncertain about. In the taxi (it was about 10pm), we came across groups of seemingly homeless children who chased after our car. I cannot imagine walking here on our own (this way also leads to a metro station). There is another more conventional way to get to the accommodation which isn't any better. You'd have to cut through a couple of dodgy backstreets and climb a steep flight of slope (good luck if you have multiple pieces of heavy luggage). A handful of locals congregate at one of the alleyways and set up what seemed like a thieves market. They'd stare at my wife and I as we walked past them and it made us very uncomfortable. Oh, and be prepared to walk through choking sewage stench too.

The accommodation is also in a rather poor state, masked by an appearance of grandeur as depicted on their website. The building must have been at least a century old with their ancient lock with lock-holes large enough to see through to the other side and moldy wood. My room was a tiny room with a bathroom retrofitted into it! We only had space to place our luggage at the foot of our bed and had none to move about!

Shocking that this accommodation is so well-reviewed here and on TripAdvisor. I did not like it that when I raised a couple of concerns to the front desk when I was checking in, the receptionist kept pressuring me to not post any negative reviews and kept pointing to their 4.8 star TripAdvisor award (really???). I suggest you look through the reviews here and see for yourself which...

Everything is very bad. 1. There are bed bugs in the room. In huge quantities. There is poison under the mattresses, but it does not save. On the first night we found a couple of bugs, but did not attach any importance to this. In the morning, upon careful inspection, it became clear that there are many of them, and they are everywhere: on the sheets, headboards, and sometimes even on the hair! We were lucky on the first night, the bugs were fed with the blood of other guests and by great chance they did not bite us. Of course, we asked for a room change. 2. The hotel staff is poorly focused on the comfort of the guests. After asking for a change, we were told that there was only one room. We went to look at it. It was in the same building, but visually no bugs were found, however, the room was smaller, the view was worse, we paid for a triple room, and we were offered a double. In response to these reasonable comments, the hotel administrator made a face of displeasure and said that so be it, they had another room. We went to look at it too, there were no bedbugs there either, but we do not rule out that they were removed right before our visit. The second room offered suited us and we decided to stay in it. It was worth seeing the administrator's reaction, as if he thought: "finally they calmed down." 3. "Glass breakfasts." Often, many products ran out or were completely absent, regardless of whether you came at the beginning or the end of breakfast. You can eat, but without pleasure. To conclude: despite the fact that they changed our room, bedbugs were there too. One of the nights they still bit us and left stains "in a trail" on our limbs. They may not be visible, but they filled the entire hotel. These are serious violations of sanitation, requiring attention from the authorities, since the hotel administration does not want to close the buildings and poison them. Pros: nice view, beautiful and authentic rooms, great location, decent price (if it weren't for the bedbugs)

We liked it very much! We were two females staying for 11 nights. At first, the surrounding area was a bit spooky for us, but we very fast realised, that it was just situated in a local area instead of a touristy one - which we really appreciated! Even when we came home at night in the dark, we never felt unsafe, also not in the surrounding areas. The hotel has also a lot of cameras installed in the streets. The breakfast was good. I really appreciated the pre-packed plates with food on it, since other guests are very likely to put on loads of food and never finish it - the waste is minimized like that. Çay as well as coffee was always available at breakfast, as well. The rooms are functional. Which is totally fine. People don’t tend to come to Istanbul to just sit around in a hotel. The sheets got changed every two days, the rooms cleaned every day. The view is phenomenal! Yes, it is a bit of a workout to get up to the hotel, but look at it like this: you would have to pay for the gym, here you get it included! The terrace is my personal favourite place and if it wouldn’t have been so cold, I definitely would have used the pool. The personnel was really kind and if you needed anything, they have been accommodating! Definitely recommend, if you want to stay in the heart of Istanbul and almost get everything done by foot!
