Martinenz Hotel — Hotel in Fatih

I stayed at this hotel on January 2022. I rate its location with 4 stars for the neighborhood, but 1 star for the exact location facing the tramway tracks. The neighborhood is great and is the heart of old Istanbul. Everything is within easy reach either walking or riding the tramway. There are a lot of shopping/dinning options in this neighborhood, and transportation is available to different places of Istanbul via the tramway, metro, or buses. However, the hotel is facing the track of the tramway and the noise from the passing trains is intense, these trains operate from 6 am to midnight, so be prepared for the disturbance during your sleep. The hotel has no direct access to the street. The lobby is one level higher than the street, and there is a flight of stairs that must be taken to reach the lobby. If you have heavy luggage, good luck carrying them up and down. My room was for 2 persons with queen bed. There is one closet for clothes, one night stand, and on table. All of these furniture take 95% of the room's area, leaving so little for walking or placing your luggage. The bathroom is also tiny in space, with a bathtub which could be 40 inches long. The carpet on the floor has many stain spots. I believe that the carpet is too old and they don't do carpet washing periodically. There are hand towels and showering towels, but they look tired of being washed again and again. The breakfast that comes with the room charges is really good for the price and quality of the hotel. Als ich das Hotel Martinenz zu Beginn unseres einwöchigen Urlaubs betrat war ich noch recht optimistisch, dass es sich in dieser Unterkunft ganz nett logieren lässt. Die Lage ist absolut zentral und auch der Aufgang recht ansprechend gestaltet. Im Eingangsbereich erwartete uns zwar ein etwas nostalgischer 60er-Jahre Charm (tiefe Decken, dunkle Lobby, abgeranzte Sessel), aber auch das tat dem Ganzen noch keinen Abbruch.||Nachdem wir unser Zimmer bezogen hatten stellte sich jedoch rasch Ernüchterung ein. Es hatte die Größe eines begehbaren Kleiderschranks und war mit abgewohntem Teppichboden ausgestattet. Tatsächlich hatten wir Probleme unsere beiden Koffer noch in der Kammer unterzubringen.||Einzig das Bad hatte einen zeitgemäßen Standard und war sauber.||Da wir am Abend ankamen und sofort ins Bett vielen bemerkten wir erst mit dem Weckerklingeln am nächsten Morgen eine weitere Überraschung: Das einzige Fenster im Raum eröffnete keinen Blick ins Freie, sondern in einen breiten, hohen Lüftungsschacht. Demzufolge herrschte 24 Stunden lang vollständige Dunkelheit im Zimmer.||Das Frühstück am nächsten Morgen passte hervorragend zum Gesamtkonzept des Hotels.Mal wieder ließ ich mich von dem hellen, großen Frühstücksraum mit Außenterasse täuschen und konnte mir beim Anblick des "Buffets" das Lachen nicht verkneifen: In der Mitte war hübsches Plasteobst drapiert, von echtem fehlte jede Spur. Dafür gab es pinkfarbene Chemiewurst und Analogkäse, alternativ Sahnegeschnetzeltes vom Vorabend oder Marmelade jeder Culeur (dafür mit einheitlichem Zuckergeschmack). Ich empfehle Ihnen als einzig genießbare Variante Weißbrot mit Frischkäse (später kauften wir frische Simit bei den Straßenverkäufern und frisch gepressten O-Saft-- ca. 1 €). Außerdem weise ich daraufhin, dass sowohl Kaffee als auch Tee (nur eine Sorte-schwarzer) und (Chemie)-Säfte mit dem örtlichen Leitungswasser zubereitet werden. Weder lecker noch bekömmlich. ||Die Rezeption war uns bei allen Fragen keine Hilfe, vielleicht auch auf Grund mangelnder Fremdsprachenkenntnisse. Man wies uns weder auf den Safe noch auf das WLAN hin, auch unsere Pässe erhielten wir erst auf Nachfrage zurück. Auch war es den Rezeptionisten nicht möglich, uns den Weg nach Eyup mit den Öffis hersuszusuchen oder ein Hamam zu empfehlen. Ratsam ist auch sich seines Transfers rückzuversichern, Eigeninitiative und Kundenorientierung sind hier nämlich Fremdwörter. Die Krönung war, dass die Putzfrau (zur Abwechslung mal sehr eigeninitiativ) mein ganzes Euro-Kleingeld und später nochmal einige Lira einsackte, welche ich im Zimmer liegen gelassen hatte-und das obwohl ich eigens einen Zettel geschrieben hatte, auf dem ich Trinkgeld für sie platzierte.||Unglaublicherweise war es trotzdem ein wunderschöner Urlaub in einer faszinierenden, sehenswerten Stadt, die ich mit Sicherheit nicht zum letzten Mal...

The only good thing about this place is location . Very rude customer service. I stayed here for seven days with water leaking big time from under the bathtub where it becomes like a pool the hair dryer is not working .the TV is not 51 inch but maybe 15 inch with only like 7 channels. no where to store your belongings inside a one door closet. I ended up losing my key to the room on the last day they unlocked my room and because the key is needed to turn the lights to everything in the room and they would not program another one for us we stayed with no power what so ever. I told them that this has never ever happened anywhere else we traveled to and that how could I stay with no power in the room . They just shrugged their shoulders and walked away . I was going to call the tourism police but didn't. Bad hotel don't let the price or the star rating fools...
