Update 2: 11/24 I decided to give another try to my favorite dish: Chicken Pad Thai. Horrible mistake. It came with 95% carrot and 5% noodles. 😵 A complete joke. Not acceptable. Ended up ordering a margherita pizza. That I had to eat by myself, after all the other plates were already removed by the waitress... A doggy bag to take the leftovers was provided only after being a little bit embarrassed by the staff saying that they didn't have a package and if I wanted I could continue to eat. 🙄 Difficult to understand, since it's a popular place, always with a full house. Instead of improving they are getting worse. 🫤 Feeling really sad about everything.
Update 1: 2023 The food quality has decreased. All the portions got smaller while the prices got higher. They don't serve the welcome olive portion anymore, and the staff is completely oblivious about the products and menu. I usually go there to eat their chicken pad Thai. Yesterday had no time to sit in, so ordered 2 for take away. They made me pay before giving me the food. When I received the package it was an absolutely ridiculous portion: it looked like it was half the usual portion we eat while there! At home I checked it and it was less than 350g each plate. They also forgot to add the side seasonings that is always served next to it. So different from my older review about them below (over an year ago).
First review: 2016 Varuna cafe is one of the best pubs around Turkey, the owner is a traveller and loves to display vintage items on his restaurants. The decoration is one of the best things about this pub. My favourite dish is the chicken Pad Thai. I fell in love with it. The beer is always cold, the staff is super friendly. it's a great place to relax and be impressed. They usually serve a portion of olive with olive oil that's is just tasty and welcoming. Go...
Read moreThe only good thing was the ambience here! We were literally scammed by one of the waiters there. Never go there! We bumped into the manager the day before (he called himself the owner?) and it was a good chat so we went for dinner the next day. Even though we selected and chose a mid range wine, the waiter poured us the most expensive wine on the menu (that we specifically said no to) and then escalated the conversation by being very rude when we tried to question him. It didn't even taste like the expensive wine. When we asked him to bring the manager (as he was getting agitated and ruder by the minute) he went and brought us a revised bill and slapped it on our table. We paid and left even though we wanted to talk to the manager and explain the scam. We had small kids with us and didn't want to extend the argument. On a side note, apparently every ingredient was over and whatever we ordered wasn't available. Ended with having nachos (packet ones) with literally no toppings, a pad Thai which didn't even taste like regular noodles. Very very poor food...
Read moreWe found this place walking around the Old Town. We ordered their version of Turkish breakfast. We started eating but we noticed that something was missing. We asked 2 waiters and the only thing they did was apologise and offered a turkish coffee on the house instead, which we refused as it was not what we wanted. 2 more tables next to us came in and they ordered the same breakfast (the only turkish style breakfast on the menu). We noticed they received way more than we had, which was what was listed on their menu, including honey with cheese, fruit, bread, water. When we requested the bill we were not even given a small discount to compensate the items missing. Not going again. I had high expectations considering the history of the chain and the beautiful decor, but this service ruined it. The price for the breakfast is high if compared to other food places in Antalya. Even Istanbul compared for that same price of 160 Turkish Lira (80 lira per 2 person), gets you double the food we had here....
