My fiancée and I stayed at seven different hotels during our time in Turkey and Hotel Nilya was the best by far. The staff went above and beyond during our stay, taking the time to sit us down after we checked in and plan our day for us so that we did not waste time or miss out on any of the local sights. The hotel owner Nazmi also offered us free shuttle service to and from Ephesus, in addition to lending us a free guide book to use during our stay. He also gave us his personal cell phone number and told us that we were welcome to call him if we had any questions at any point about any of the ruins.
The hotel is centrally located, within walking distance of the city centre and various sites, while also being situated away from the main road on a quiet, flower-lined street so that noise and traffic were never a concern. The rooms are also beautiful, decorated with unique handmade traditional Turkish art. My fiancée commented that she'd like to find out where to buy some similar pieces if possible, and it turned out Nazmi also owns a gallery less than a five minute walk away from the hotel where similar works were on sale for very reasonable prices. He also told us that, if we would like, he could give us a short demonstration about the art after we had finished seeing the local sights, and that we were under no pressure to buy any of the pieces. He was very informative, and as he said, we never felt pressured at any point to purchase anything that we didn't want, but we did end up buying some rugs and ceramic tiles because they were beautiful and very reasonably priced considering their quality. Nazmi also took the time to tell us about the meaning of all of the various symbols on the rugs we purchased, in addition to giving us information about the rug making process and a certificate with his contact information for if we had any questions about the rugs at any point after purchase.
We also didn't realize that the price we payed for our room included a delicious full breakfast, served in the hotel's beautiful, flower-lined courtyard. When we were checking out, Nazmi also recommended that we visit the ancient city of Aphrodisias, telling us that it was his favourite and a much less crowded alternative to Ephesus but just as beautiful, which turned out to be true. As he had said, Aphrodisias was essentially empty aside from us, and turned out to be the perfect location for a proposal to my now fiancée.
We hope to return to Turkey at some point in the future, and we'll be looking forward to another stay at Hotel Nilya as a highlight of our next trip whenever...
Read moreIt is a small bed and breakfast located nearby historical attractions in Selcuk.
Location is GOOD tucked away from the crowd but near enough to the historical sites though it is a walk in a hill going to the hotel from the town center which can be challenging for some people. There is a nearby Pizza place, cafe, and even a local bar that is quaint and cute and doesn't feel touristy.
The rooms are basic but deigned with traditional Turkish art and furnitures which makes the place feels authentic and local. Our room thous is room 207 and it has a strong toilet smells coming from the toilet but doesnt bother us once we close the toilet but it is disgusting, we didnt mentioned it to the owner since we're just staying 2 night and most of the time we are out of the hotel.
The breakfast was GREAAAAT! A lot of serving of fresh sweet fruits, selection of homemade jams, basket of bread and your choice of egg.
Over all i would still choose to stay at Nilya! GREAT LOCATION, GREAT SERVICE, GOOD...
Read moreWe have been here for 2 nights (leaving today unfortunately), and we have been SOOO pleased with our choice. The hotel is in a prime area for seeing many sites here. It's not too far to drive to Ephesus. The Ephesus Museum, the castle, and the Basilica of St John are all within 5 minutes walking distance from here. There so so many places to check out for food as well. The hotel itself is a renovated old home with a nice courtyard. We stayed in a family room on the 2nd floor. It's very comfortable (the smaller bed is a bit firm but fine). The while place is clean and feels like you are just in a home, not a hotel. The staff are so very lovely. We were super happy with the large breakfast included! If you leave breakfast hungry, it's your own fault. So much fresh local food. The owner is super helpful. One night, we were sitting up on the terrace and they brought us up fruit and apple tea. Such a nice surprise after a long day of walking. I'd absolutely recommend...
