This was almost a perfect stay. The hotel is made up of several townhouses joined together which gives it a quirky feel and not a cookie cutter chain hotel atmosphere. The downside of this is that depending on where your room is there may be more stairs than you expect. Rooms overlooking Pierrepoint St have an issue with street noise, to the point that i thought the windows had been left open. I had specifically requested a quiet room and this was a quiet room from an internal hotel perspective but not from street noise. This was handled incredibly professionally with housekeeping suggesting the second room offered would not be much quieter. I did end up on 6th floor in a lovely room and all done with incredible grace and fantastic service. Call out to the receptionist and to Ian who was so helpful and delightful throughout my stay. The rooms were spotless, the facilities available great, and the staff in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast were just delightful. I had room service and it isn't your typical room service food so no sandwiches etc but the food was delicious - would just like the menu to reflect that you are eating in a room so the food smells can be strong and linger. In general this was almost a perfect stay but a couple of things were disappointing especially at the price point for this hotel. Main issue is black of soundproofing on windows - it isn't good if you think all the windows are open when they aren't and I am sure something can be done about this. On initial arrival there seemed to be more admin happening at two of the three reception points with 4 people at these points not checking guests in and indifferent to the queue or guests needs, this was around 2:45. I explained i needed to be in my room by 3 (I had a zoom meeting then) but only Ian took this as an issue and did what he could to get it sorted and asked one of the receptionists (May or Maeve I think) to help - between them they did a fabulous job in getting me in with a minute to spare. Later one night we had some tea in the lounge area, I went to reception to pay the bill and was told the bill had to be paid at the restaurant, there was no offer to get it for me or sort it out - this might sound picky but this not an inexpensive budget hotel and I would like the service to reflect this If it hadn't been for the restaurant staff, Ian and May/Maeve (sorry i can't recall which one), the hotel would have been marked much...
Read morethis hotel couldn't be better located, being next to a public car park and on street pay and display parking - with plenty of room and space to drop of bags and pick up members of your party.
if you are arriving by train it is so easy to find and if you do not have mobility issues would only take 3 to 5 minutes one you are out of the station. The road to it is flat and the pavement wide with two crossings to get you across the road.
Reception is quirky and full of vibrant unique pieces of art there are two separate reception desks areas - there is a lounge/ games room through to the right of the reception area - this too has colourful bespoke art pieces and lush chairs to relax in. there are some lovely wooden games to keep you occupied too.
We had a night cap in the bar - which is in the Elder restaurant, I loved the quirky nature of the decoration in the Elder and the attentiveness of the staff - I didn't think the alcohol prices were expensive but its not a cheap chain bar, if you get my meaning!
We had a superior room at the side of the hotel that fronts the main road - there was some noise and if you are a light sleeper it may bother you, especially on the weekends, but to be honest I did not hear anything. The room was large and I particularly like the fact there were x2 comfortable wing back chairs with foot stools.
One drawback was that the beds were really quite high - if you are short or have mobility issues then you may struggle - I am 5ft 7 and I could not touch my feet to the floor whilst sat on the bed. bear that in mind.
Bathrooms were beautiful, smelt clean and quite frankly sparkled, lovely big bathrobes that actually fit and were fluffy not like cardboard.
I loved the Nespresso coffee machine and the fact there was always water or a soft drink in the mini fridge in the room.
I loved breakfast - it is a must and the amount of choice is incredible - the quality of the fresh food was amazing, all locally sourced and credited on the menus. Breakfast staff worked hard to accommodate difficult requests were polite and worked to maintain a nice calm atmosphere, they did not rush you away after it looked like you were done.
I will recommend it to anyone who asks - I think our trip to bath was made all that bit more special because of this hotel. The staff in every department seem to go above and beyond to make you feel...
Read moreGreat hotel for the price, and an excellent location. We were given a complementary upgrade for our particular reason of staying, which was a nice surprise. They also wrote us a little note on the back of a card, which was such a lovely touch. The garden rooms were just outside of the hotel which meant that there was more peace and quiet, but reception and the main building were only a few steps away if we needed anything. The room was a good size, with complementary bar which included both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The mini fridge was also a nice bonus.
The hotel was located just outside of the city centre and just down the street from the train station, meaning travel to the hotel and restaurants/activities/shopping were all only a few minutes away. The hotel also has two restaurants, and although we didn't try them, the menus looked enticing and some of the items were included in the room service menu.
All staff were helpful and friendly. They helped make the atmosphere and our stay just that much better. There were really only two issues that I found during our stay. The first was that our bathroom toilet was not the cleanest, with some streaks missed by the cleaner on the outside- as it was a free upgrade I didn't feel the need to make a bother out of it, and it didn't detract from the rest of the room. The other issue was the gym which was advertised as 'luxury'. It was nice to have the option of the gym, but it was certainly not luxury. There was a cable machine, and dumbbells up to 10kg, and a selection of cardio machines. You need ask the reception for a keycard to access it so they can track the number of people using it as it's so small (not an issue imo). There weren't any mats to use on the ground, so you had to sit on cold hard flooring, and there wasn't much space to do anything without a machine (yoga, dumbbell exercises, etc). As someone who lifts heavy I was a bit disappointed as other hotels I've used have a bigger space, more equipment selection, mats, etc. I appreciate the gym was included in our price, but if you are someone who lifts heavy like I do, it may be worth paying for a day-pass to the nearby Gym Group/PureGym.
Overall, lovely experience at this hotel and would definitely return for...
