Hotel ||Booking the cheapest hotel you can find in any location is always as high risk. Reviews of this property had been pretty poor, but a small part of me hopped that as they claimed this hotel had improved.|It seems wrong to deride a cheap hotel for being what a cheap hotel is, however I think in this case there are a few mitigating reasons for giving a bad review.|I booked the single room, it probably couldn’t have been any smaller. The bed was reasonably comfortable and the sheets were certainly very clean. I didn’t dare look at the mattress. Bathroom clean, although it showed significant signs of aging.|The home-made desk and shelves in the little alcove was rather sad, something that would look good in most people’s shed. It’s in a good location and you can park on the seafront in the evenings for just under £10 for the night which I think is good value!|I didn’t use the advanced check before arriving, but the warning signs were on the front door as soon as I arrived. There is no reception you have to use the check-in system. It’s bizarre and an additional price of £6. I was given the relevant codes to open the front door and my room ( a very painful experience). It’s an extra charge not mentioned and it’s a particularly irritating process. At one point I thought I would have to just go and book another hotel as frustration set in. |Inside there a further signs telling you the rules of the property and making it feel most unfriendly. There’s probably a good reason nobody paints their bedroom black, because it actually feels pretty depressing when you are sat inside it. The third rate painting doesn’t disguise the scruffy nature of the room. You can have a cheap hotel but making it feel like some sort of prison cell is probably not the best idea. I wouldn’t go back, but I’ll try a cheap hotel again in the future knowing the risks. Upside is this place is economical and a good location. Downside the check-in is appalling and the austere decoration is most...

Read moreHad a very lovely stay at Blue Sky Guest House. Samantha was a very pleasant host who gave great tips for the Brighton area. The room I stayed in was clean and spacious. I especially liked the area the house was situated in. It was in walking distance of the train station, beach and major attractions. But I also liked it because it seemed to be in a quieter and very friendly area of Brighton. Some warnings for those who have never stayed in an older English house, there are only stairs (and many of them), floors and walls creak, and having an ensuite in your room generally means it is a converted closet, so it is small. This did not bother me in the slightest and I was very comfortable and felt very welcome during my stay. Highly recommend Blue Sky Guest House and...
