I would agree with many things a recent reviewer said, who also gave 4 stars and posted many pictures. The hotel is nice enough, and less than a 10 minute walk to the centre of Keswick. There is free parking on site for around 30 cars, but you can park on the street nearby with a free voucher which the hotel give to you if the car park is full. The bar, lounge and restaurant look like they have been recently decorated and refurbished, they feel modern and quite luxurious, and are nice places to hang out for a drink. Gardens also quite nice, and you can have drinks outside. Staff very helpful and friendly. Some of the hotel is quite a bit older however and in need of a similar refurb. We had 2 separate rooms as are a family of 4, so we had a deluxe king room and a standard twin room, both in the main hotel building. To be honest there wasn't much difference in terms of decor between the 2 rooms. The deluxe king had a nicer view (over the car park at the front) and a nicer walk-in shower, whereas the standard room had a view of the shabby back of the hotel and a weak shower over the bath. Be warned however, the restaurant is NOT fine dining... Far from it. Breakfast was ok, if a little slow on some days, but the 3 course dinner was decidedly average. Thai fishcakes had no hint of Thailand at all, they were just potato and bacon cakes with very little fish. The steak was not cooked to my liking and was drowned in peppercorn sauce. Staff not particularly attentive once you were sat down. We had to ask for more water and wine every time we ran out, rather than being asked. We paid what felt like an awful lot of money for a 4 night stay, but we did have 2 rooms in summer holidays with only a few days notice. The hotel is OK, but could be so much better with a more extensive refurb and an improvement in the restaurant in terms of...
Read moreHi Sally After numerous requests to the manager of the Keswick Country House Hotel for a refund I find myself having to send you this e mail to try to sort out this problem. We were originally booked to stay in the Keswick suite for 3 nights from the 28th November for a birthday break we used a Travelzoo coupon but upgraded to the suite as a treat after a pretty difficult year unfortunately due to COVID-19 restrictions we had to re schedule for the 19th December with current restrictions for Manchester being in tier 3 we decided that we would have to cancel and requested a refund for the balance which amounted to £463 unfortunately this is where the problem has occurred, we have been told by Caroline Hall , the manager at Keswick Country House Hotel, that we now have to wait for 3 months for a refund and cited the fact that they need to protect jobs , when originally booking the suite and paying in full we were told that if we could not attend due to Covid-19 restrictions we would get a full refund , unfortunately since our cancellation and first request for a refund , email 26th November, my wife was involved in a car accident resulting in us now needing to finance the purchase of another vehicle so it is now paramount that we receive a full refund as soon as possible as we currently do not have a vehicle. It would be much appreciated if you could find your way to a swift conclusion to this issue , for a company whose mission statement is Customer satisfaction Employee satisfaction Your satisfaction IS Our satisfaction I would like to think that this statement is to give ultimate customer satisfaction rather than hollow words that get rolled out in glossy magazines and adverts and are only paid lip service or used on an as and when basis that suits your needs Regards David Yewdall Booking...
Read moreThe reasons why we gave this four stars are as follows, very pleasant staff, nice and spacious lounge areas, excellent food and the service of the kitchen was very good and supported by polite and attentive waiting staff.
The location of the hotel is perfect, as it is a short walk to the nearby park and Keswick centre.
The downside, and the reason it didn't get 5 stars, is the decor. It is old and tired. There were numerous places where wallpaper was marked and damaged (one of the photos of our room shows dark marks on the wall). There was also paint flaking off the radiator in our room.
In some places throughout the hotel you could see where the walls were warped or damaged and these areas had been papered over. We didn't think that reporting these issues to the front staff was something that we should bother them with. Hopefully, management will see this review and look into the possibility of a refurbishment.
Free Wi-Fi was available in the hotel and the signal remained good at the rear of the hotel.
The TV had Freeview channels. None in HD and we would have welcomed this. Standard definition is stone age technology. There were no foreign language stations. The Lake District gets a lot of foreign visitors, so this should be considered. If I was a visiting foreigner, I would possibly be peeved at this.
This seems like a busy hotel, we were surprised, as we attended at the start of a week in February, we expected it to be lifeless, however it was quite the opposite.
Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the front...
