Visited yesterday for a birthday celebration booked by a friend, and unfortunately we had a disappointing experience. We arrived to find the party of 15 was split across two tables, not uncommon for a Pub but we had hoped to be told in advance of this. When we arrived there was no real contact from staff, no cutlery given until the last minute, and only after 50 minutes did they tell us upon enquiring that they were waiting for us to tell them to put the food through. Again, absolutely fine, but a quick communication when we arrived would have solved this. Food had all been ordered in advance and yet the person whose birthday it was still had to stand at the bar going through the order, and it still then came out wrong with an extra Lamb roast dinner. They then tried to charge us for this, and it took us taking over and going through the bill for them to show it was in fact just the single Lamb roast which they already knew was an error! Staff were all taking shots behind the bar, and perhaps this muddied their maths skills.
Food was fine, the broccoli was completely uncooked and couldn’t even get a knife through, the vegan wellington was pleasant, and some of the veg was very nice (carrots, green beans) but roasties were quite tasteless sadly. Food took forever to arrive and was SO staggered that some of our party had finished by the time the last plate came out. Again, okay but let us know if the kitchen can’t do 15 covers in good time.
Add to this the complete lack of interest by staff (no checking how the food was, or if we needed anything), staff putting the Rugby on a huge TV directly above our heads and having to be asked to turn the volume down, and the general attitude of staff (catty comments, rudeness and no apology after accusing us of not paying properly) we unfortunately won’t be returning. A real shame as clearly this Pub can be great when all is well, but staff seemed confused/emotional/hungover yesterday and this really affected...
Read moreWe have been to the Mucky Duck on 2 occasions this past week, once for a lunch time Thai extravaganza and Sunday for a roast and I held off reviewing before having had both.
The food is to die for, both meals over delivered and to begin with the Thai food was super cheap (under £8) for both a starter and main. It was by far the best Thai food I have ever had. Light, crisp and tasted healthy. You couldn’t ask for more. The Sunday roast was insane, the meat was so tender, the roast potatoes so crisp and the sides where lush. Honestly the best roast I have had away from home cooking.
The pub itself has a large range of lovely beers on tap with the usual selection of spirits. We didn’t sample any wine so unable to comment but plenty of people in the pub where drinking it.
The decor is fresh and the seating sturdy. It could have some pillows as it’s all wooden seating but to be frank you don’t feel uncomfortable so I won’t complain. All facilities are clean and in good order.
The staff are super friendly and helpful, we were all asked numerous time to see if we where ok through both visits and we where waited on hand and foot.
Can’t wait to return. Such a great establishment and you will not be dissapointed either your there for a drink or a...
Read moreWe used to eat here regularly & always enjoyed the food, but had a few bad roast on the trot so stopped going for several months. We thought we’d try again today hoping the food had improved.
Sadly thanks to over an hour wait & no warning there was a long delay or apologies, bar when the food was finally brought to our table. Plus under cooked Yorkshire puddings, over cooked dried out nut roast, missing half the veg… we only got small amounts of carrot & green beans, despite photos showing at least cabbage & beetroot & we’ve had broccoli as standard previously, sides not brought out until asked for & it was then brought out literally burnt black. I’m at a loss as to why they weren’t embarrassed to send it out & didn’t just apologise & refund without my asking as it was clearly inedible. Yes they were busy, but other large groups had booked ahead, so they should have been better organised, or been honest about the long wait & missing ingredients & not taken our order at all.
We love the atmosphere of the pub & staff are generally lovely, but we come there to eat, often with friends & just wouldn’t risk it...
