It’s an old hotel but it’s clean and tidy and I would stay there again. We went to this hotel on a coach trip over a long weekend over the new year. I will admit that it was of a better standard than I expected considering the star rating. The double bed wasn’t too bad for comfort because I suffer with arthritic pain in my hips and back - although not as comfortable as my own bed at home of course. The food was quite good, particularly the breakfasts and some of the evening meals were very nice. They’ve got a nice entertainment room downstairs and a lovely little lounge upstairs on ground level. The only thing was there was a notice in the lounge warning that guests weren’t allowed to take drinks into the lounge. Two relatives who were with us are deaf and therefore couldn’t enjoy the rather loud entertainment - they needed a quiet room so that we could just enjoy a drink and a little conversation. I asked if there was anywhere else we could sit and have a quiet drink apart from the entertainment room. If I hadn’t asked, we would have been stuck in that entertainment room where my relatives couldn’t hear the entertainment and therefore would be completely alienated from what was going on. However, the bar manager was very helpful when I explained the situation to him and actually allowed us to go and sit quietly in the little lounge with our drinks. He did actually tell us that the hotel had experienced trouble makers in the lounge and that’s why they were reluctant in letting guests take drinks in there. But for goodness sake, we were all ages 68 - 75 and had no intention of causing any trouble. Maybe the Berkeley should think again about their lounge rules. I think any hotel should provide a lounge area for guests who do not want to join in with loud entertainment and especially for people with hearing difficulties who are unable to hear or enjoy such entertainment. A hearing problem is a disability that is certainly not appreciated by people to can hear normally. Another thing that needs to be understood is that hearing aids emphasise every sound and not just voices and this can be unbearable for...

Dinning room Male waiter incredibly obnoxious. Food small portions, don't ask for extras as it's refused with " It's not possible set menu". Breakfast cold, bacon like rubber plates very hot. Wait times between courses is dependent on how fasts the slowest eater is in the whole dining room
Maintenance non existent had 2 out of 3 light bulbs missing reported Monday & Tuesday still not working Friday. Bare wiring boxes on Landings. Walls cracked trim missing on doors.

Shower either scalding hot or freezing depending which tap the rest of the hotel is using due to old fashioned tap type shower.
