What a bummer :( In short, do not go there for the vegan option. "Award winning Fish and Chips" should at least have salt or some kind of flavor :( We payed 13,5 pounds (16,5€ for ONE serving). That in itself is a lot for one banana flower and potatoes.
Me and my friend were so excited to go and then the food was just not good. On top of that the service was very unprofessional.
We've travelled all over the world and have never had such a conversation with the chef before. He claimed the potatoes aren't supposed to have any flavor or salt, because salt was on the table. He said because we hadn't had vegan Fish and Chips made from Banana Flowers (which we thought was so cool btw) but only made from tofu, the reason we didn't like it had to be because we're just bot used to Banana Flowers and not because it tasted bland. I mean. We have taste buds. Idea great, although it doesn't have any protein, it's still a fun way to make it. But there was no taste. And the potatoes felt like the ones you buy from a supermarket and put in the oven :(
We have never eaten food which we had to try to rescue so bad with the salt, pepper and ketchup on the table. And 16,5€ for that was just... not okay for any restaurant.
The place was ok too, but the service just made it so much worse after having such a disappointing meal. And trust me we were hungry. We really tried to love it.
I never write negative reviews but I just really hope no one takes their friend to this place for a vegan alternative for Fish and Chips. It was...
Read moreWe walked in and luckily there was a table ready for us to sit straight away at.
The decor has a vintage London vibe do it and is bright and cosy.
We had some starters; home made thai fish cake, jalapeno flamers and calamari rings.
The fish cake definitely tasted home made and not from the packet. This is really tasty, lots of flavour and a bit creamy not forgetting the crumbly texture too.
Likewise, the calamari was well fried and had a great crunch to them when biting into it. The accompanied sauce and lemon added another layer of taste to it.
The jalapeno flamers is a flavourful snack with cheese.
For the mains, we had a large cod with chips along with mushy peas, baked beans and tartare sauce.
Once I had drenched my chips with vinegar, I tucked in. This was a really great meal and was impressed by the cod that they use for this. The mushy peas, usually not a fan, was satisfying along with the baked beans. The chips were fantastic to go alongside the fish.
Overall, this is a great place to visit to not just get your fish and chips fix, but to enjoy a great meal out.
I look forward to returning and trying other items...
Read moreCan't fault the food, it was spot on, both times I went there. The one thing that put me off on this occasion was the rude attitude coming from the guy serving me this evening. I was told it'll be 8 mins, so I wait happily, then he goes and serves 2 people their food, who came after me. After 12 mins off waiting I ask "Boss its been 8 min, is it..." then I got cut off and was told to calm down. He then goes to serve me my food, unwillingly asks me do I want salt and viniger and just handed me the bag, to which I said "thank you" with no reply from him and he just walks away.
I have seen this far too often, a new restaurant opens up, they get popular and gradually they lose the simple ability to provide decent customer service. I have worked in and around hospitality for over 12 years and never would I have been able to get away with that kind of behaviour, nor would I behave like that to any customer walking in and spending their hard earned money. When quite rightly they could've chosen the many other delights shoreditch has to offer. Food 10/10 Service 0/10...
