I've lived off of Brick Lane for 9 years, so let me tell you, Beigel Shop is the real deal. Having extensively tried both Beigel Shop and Beigel Bake, the Shop excels in quality of beigel, meat and overall flavour. I honestly don't know how or why the other store is the one with the long queue, but Beigel Shop is the ORIGINAL and has a better product. I wish more people would understand that and go there instead for an all around better experience. As of 2025, my salt beef beigel still costs around £6.50, which is insanely impressive considering the street food markets around Brick Lane are easily double that, and Beigel Shop manages to keep a 24/7 store front. Service is quick, efficient and friendly, and honestly nothing hits the spot like a hot, tangy, delicious salt beef beigel from Beigel Shop. And no, I don't work there nor am I affiliated with them/asked to review them in anyway. They literally do not even know I exist. I am just a long-time...
Read moreI came here a few weeks ago, and they don't have the option to toast their bagels. The man helping me looked bewildered that I even asked, which why? A lot of people like their bagels toasted. A bacon, egg and cheese, the cheese is shredded? Not even deli slices, the egg is BOILED, why not fried, or at least scrambled omelette style. After noticing this when my boyfriend ordered his, I opted for the salmon and cream cheese, which was okay but I don't understand why there was no option to toast, yes it is a preference, but should be offered, the same as the eggs. I can't imagine a bodega in NYC lasting when their BEC is served with BOILED eggs and shredded cheese. Truly diabolical. Also BEC should be served warm/hot so again, don't understand the whole there's no options to toast. They also only had rainbow bagels and plain bagels, no specialty ones with flavor. Truly disappointed. Would not...
Read more5 stars for value. There seem to be two main options for bagels on Brick Lane - this shop and the one a couple of doors down. I chose this one since the other had a massive queue, and honestly, I have no regrets. I was perfectly happy with the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel I ordered.
The menu mentions you can ask for lemon and pepper, and it looks like there’s an extra charge for add-ons like red onion and capers, etc. I asked for a gherkin on the side for 50p, expecting a whole pickle, but received just two slices. Worth noting - the gherkin leans sweet, not the sharp, salty, garlicky kind you’d typically find at a New York or Montreal deli.
The bagel itself had a good chew and flavour - thicker than a Montreal bagel but reminiscent of that style. Could it have used a bit more smoked salmon? Sure. But for the price, I think it was great value for London. I...
