August 4th me and my friend checked into Hyde Park International at roughly 3pm after looking around for a good 10 minutes since the outside has no proper signanage and the name of the hotel is literally faded out and barely shows when you are up close to the door. After check-in we went up to our room and immediately were shocked to see how dirty the room was. There was white crusty stains on the bed runner, the bedsheets had very obvious blood stains, the soap holder in the bathroom was falling out of the wall, the shower area was filthy with grime and mold on both the outside and inside, all the walls in the room were dirty with what looked like spill stains that clearly were never cleaned. We then proceeded to call down to concierge and told the receptionist about how dirty the room was, he came upstairs and we explained everything to him and he just stared at us and said he will see if there anything he could do. He didn't even look at all the dirty things we pointed out and left the room. We waited in the dirty room for 30 minutes or so before we called him again, since he forgot about us, and finally had someone in the cleaning staff show us another room. The second room the cleaning lady showed us was just as dirty as the first one and the same issues, dirty walls, dirty bathroom, and again uncleaned bedsheets with stains on them. We pointed this out to the lady and just like the receptionist, she just stared at us and didn't even look at the dirty things we spotted and rudely said she will let the receptionist know and left us in the room. Again, we waited for 15-20 minutes and got frustrated and brought all of bags down to the hotel lobby and asked the receptionist what was going on. He finally responded saying he was speaking to his manager and then proceeded to show us a third room. When we went to the third room he walked in on another guest sleeping in the room. That guest yelled at him to get out and I was standing outside absolutely horrified that he would take us to a room already occupied by another guest. After a few minutes he showed us a fourth room and left without any word. As soon as he left I immediately spotted all the same issues as rooms 1, 2, and 3, and again blood stains! Absolutely frustrated, angry, and tired (mind you, this was going on for almost 2 hours since we originally checked in) we went down to the receptionist again and he said he had no more rooms to show us and that maybe tomorrow morning he could show us another room but nothing guaranteed and lacked any compassion and very unprofessional as if we were the problem and not the dirty rooms. We were very frustrated because we would not have anywhere to sleep for the night and it was getting late and we were tired after a long day of travelling so we asked for a refund so that we could try to find another hotel so late in the evening and last minute. The receptionist said his manager said the refund was okay but had to go through Expedia since we booked through them. I proceeded to call Expedia and the agent said they would need to speak to the hotel to confirm everything so I handed the phone to the receptionist and he told the agent everything that happened. The agent then needed to speak to the manager to confirm a refund but for some reason, the manager was not responding to the calls. So we had to book another hotel at the last minute for $1,000 more since it was getting late (almost 3 hours dealing with this ordeal) and were told that the manager would get back to us, and Expedia, as soon as possible with our refund. Its been a month now and no response from the hotel whatsoever. I have called multiple times and left emails and keep getting told the manager will contact me and never does. THE WORST, DISGUSTING HOTEL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. And I have stayed at some pretty low budget hotels before and this one was was nasty.
I tried leaving this review on Expedia but for some reason it said I was not able to...
the pictures attached from all 4 rooms don't even show the nastiness properly but...
Read moreI booked Deluxe Double room directly from their website, breakfast was included. Excellent location, you only need to walk through one block and you're at the Bayswater station, a 1-2 minute walk. Queensway station is also nearby, so you have easy access to pretty much anywhere a tourist might want to go. Many cafes and restaurants nearby as well as a couple supermarkets and other shops. Next to Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.
I was assigned a room on the ground floor. The room was nicely decorated with a big bed. However it was the smallest I've ever stayed in, I cannot even imagine how two people would go about their morning/night time routines there. There was only one small closet in the room which only had 8 hangers, no shelves. No separate hook for your jacket. I was traveling with hand luggage only and I still had to keep half of my stuff inside my suitcase.
The room was cold due to the freezing air coming through the door. I had the temperature at 28 c and it was still chilly, my feet were frozen and I was shivering, coming from cold weather to a cold hotel room. For whatever reason they kept the door to the corridor open during the daytime, and the exit was directly in front of the corridor - so whenever someone opened the front door, cold air would come rushing in through the room door. I told about this to the staff, they put the power on higher on the heater which didn't really help as it obviously didn't prevent the air flowing through the door.
The bathroom was very cold, and very tiny. The shower was a small glass box with a folding door and the toilet seat was in front of the door. Getting in and out of the shower was a struggle. The sink was placed high so you will make a mess if you try to wash your face in the sink, the water running down your arms. Typical British faucet with separate handles for cold and hot water which are so annoying.
The breakfast was basic, the same each day. Tiny breakfast room but enough space for off-season time. Bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, boiled and scrambled eggs, beans. Omelets, fried and poached eggs and oatmeal could be ordered from the kitchen. Yoghurt, simple sandwich ingredients, some pastries and cereal. Fresh fruit. Nothing special but still good. Coffee, hot chocolate and tea making supplies and biscuits were complimentary in your room. No mini fridge in Deluxe Double, so no possibility to store your own food - although placing it in front of the door probably would've done the same job.
Friendly staff, I was shown to my room on arrival and my luggage was brought for me. When I complained about the coldness they did come directly to check it, too bad their solution...
Read moreI’ll start off with a few good points. The hotel is a 1 minute walk from Bayswater Tube Station and a few minutes from the Kensington Palace end of Hyde Park. The lobby is attractive and the staff are friendly. There’s an ironing board and iron in the room, and randomly, a microwave.||We were given room 302 which I believe was a Superior Double Room. It’s dated and bordering on tired. The main issue is it’s tiny. You couldn’t swing a cat in it. There’s a desk at the end of the bed and if the chair is pulled out a bit you then can’t walk round to the other side of the bed.||The bathroom is minuscule. There’s absolutely nowhere to put anything by the sink. There are 2 small shelves over the toilet where we put our toiletries but we kept the loo seat down to avoid accidentally dropping anything in it! ||The shower was completely unacceptable. There were stains up and down the frame, the glass needed scrubbing, there were missing bits from the control valves (which didn’t stop the shower from working, but visually doesn’t impress me as a guest) the ceiling shower-head didn’t look like it had been cleaned in a good 6 months. We didn’t risk using it. The handheld shower head still needed a good clean, but was slightly less grubby. Unfortunately it was damaged. Water poured out of the side when you turned it on. And when I tried to adjust the angle of the handheld shower head, it just slumped down. Useless! ||Breakfast is a £12pp buffet and it can be found in a small whitewashed basement that had absolutely no charm or appeal. Food choices are somewhat limited, but for £12 you can’t really complain. The fried eggs were overcooked and looked like they had been sitting around for far too long. The scrambled were “ok”. There were no pork products on offer. Instead there were beef sausages (tasted alright) and turkey bacon (it looked awful). There were no teaspoons or knives left in the tray when we were there so we had to ask for them. We also had to ask for butter, hash browns and whole grain bread to be replenished. ||When we checked out, I told the receptionist about the issues with the shower. She watched the videos I had taken but gave no apology… ||I certainly wouldn’t return...
