Overview: Sports Bar & Grill with a country theme

Meal/Time: Dinner/Sunday night/ 5PM

Decor/Atmosphere: 5/5 reminds me of a hunting lodge. Trophies mounted on walls along with at least 12 flat screen TVs. TVs had sports (baseball) on and probably one of the best baseball movies... Field of Dreams playing.

Service/ Front of the House: 3/5 had to wait a few minutes for someone to show up and seat me.

Service/Serving Staff: 6/5 TK was awesome. He is very personable and made his tables feel welcome. I asked for his opinions on 2 different dishes and he came through with the perfect recommendation. He was honest with his opinions and suggestions... I truly appreciate this. In my opinion, he is in the top 25 of best servers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Food: 5/5 Maple Bacon Brussels Sprouts $10.00 Pan seared halved brussel sprouts in a real maple syrup sauce. Sweet with a bit of saltiness from the bacon than just a touch of bitterness from the sprouts. A real balance... but a bit messy and sticky. If you bring this home, you need to make sure you have plenty of napkins.

Bone-in pork chop with apple-pear chutney (need to get the chutney on the side...thanks for the recommendation TK). The chutney is sweet and cinnamony... it will over power the savoriness of the pork chop. It is really hard to find a place that still has bone in pork chops and I really really enjoyed chewing on the bone....brings out the savage in me. The mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli that came with the dish were pretty good. The mashed potatoes were creamy mashed red potatoes. Steamed broccoli made the dish "healthier", but I think it could have used some butter.

Value: 5/5

Restroom: 4/5 2 sinks/2 urinals/2 stalls The stalls looked like they had galvanized steel walls...really fits with the theme of the restaurant. The Floor in front of the sink was wet and had paper towels on it.

Will I come...

Walking in I immediately appreciate the over all aesthetic. It feels open yet warm and welcoming. However the open space provides no sound buffer, so the dining room gets very noisey and it feels chaotic. Because of that this is not a spot we could come for date night. I understand nothing can be done about it, but it's good to be aware of. Now, the food.... We ordered fried zucchini, corn fritters, halibut tacos, and a bison burger. Zucchini needed seasoning and tasted like it was cooked in the same oil as fish. Not overwhelmingly so, but noticeable enough. The sauce it comes with is good though, and they were cooked well. Nice n crispy crunchy! Corn fritters were very good. Get them. If you're concerned about the portions of the fish n chips get the halibut tacos. Very good portion size. I like the over all simplicity of the dish because you can taste each of the ingredients. However, same song as before in that the fish needed seasoning. Mine were also searved without the aioli which I didn't realize untill I was done with one. It def needs it. But the fish was cooked perfectly. The burger was under seasoned as well. There wasn't much about it to stamd out as a good burger. Oh and the fries! Reg fries are ok. I don't like most fries but wouldn't mind eating these. The sweet potato fries are good! Seems like they're battered and are a good texture. Both were seasoned well. Over all the place feels new with all it's quirks, my partner wont return because of the noise but I will be willing to, and while we appreciate a low sodium meal the kitchen needs to up the seasoning a bit. Not just with salt, but flavor in general. I recommend 6 cloves of garlic...

The Bear Paw Bar & Grill in Anchorage, Alaska, offers a delightful dining experience that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the Last Frontier.

From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, adorned with rustic Alaskan decor and memorabilia that transports you to a cozy, adventurous setting. The comfortable seating and friendly chatter create a relaxed ambiance, making it an ideal spot to unwind and soak in the local culture.

During my visit, the service was truly exceptional. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, offering recommendations and ensuring every need was met with genuine Alaskan hospitality. Their attentiveness truly enhanced the dining experience.

Now, let's talk about the food! I started with the clam chowder, and it was a revelation. Rich, creamy, and packed with tender clams, it was a comforting and flavorful start to the meal. But the absolute must-order on the menu is their fish and chips. The hand-battered Alaskan halibut was perfectly cooked – crispy on the outside and flaky and moist within, served alongside a generous portion of fries. It's a dish that truly showcases the fresh, local seafood and is a highlight for any visitor.

The Bear Paw Grill delivers on all fronts: friendly and helpful service, a welcoming Alaskan atmosphere, and delicious, satisfying food. It's a true gem in Anchorage and a must-visit for anyone looking for an authentic and enjoyable...
