Susitna Place B&B is a wonderfully unique, peaceful gem in Anchorage. Hosted by Monica H., with husband, Steve, the atmosphere exudes tranquility and harmony as perfectly as the spectacular views. This gracious, charming couple offer a remarkable breakfast and delightful conversation to start your day on the best of notes.
Monica is constantly expanding her knowledge of things to do and places to see as she and Steve explore and exchange information with guests about new adventures. She is a knowledgeable resource. Monica is a genius at décor, adorning walls with art that accentuates magnificent natural features—such as Mt. Susitna (“Sleeping Lady”)—seen through the large pane windows; displaying paintings and photographs of Alaskan wildlife in their habitat; and, selecting maps and references to inspire inquisitiveness about the rich culture and heritage of the 49th state.
Susitna Place B&B lies in an enviable location between Anchorage’s serene coastline and fun downtown attractions. Perched on a quiet bluff overlooking Knik Arm—one of Cook Inlet’s two tidal branches that frame Anchorage to the west—Susitna Place is the perfect base camp for accessing the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and its variety of scenic views and wildlife. Downtown Anchorage’s shops, restaurants, and other attractions are equally accessible by foot. The Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center, Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, and a half dozen museums are short walks away.
From the exceptionally appointed Susitna Suite and awesome views from it and the Denali Suite; to the spectacular vantage point of the upstairs common area & deck; to the cozy Illiamna, St. Elias, and Katmai Rooms with their special features; to the rare and coveted 4-space carport – Susitna Place B&B will not disappoint.

Read moreAfter beeing here in 2017, we decided to coming back to Susitna Place for another trip to Anchorage. Unfortunatly, the Denali Room wasn't available, so I picked the Susitna Room for the first night, and switched due to reservations to the St. Elias for the net two nights and than back to Suusitna. So far so good. After the first email contact I found out, that the ownership has changed, but Monica was at least that friendly than Linda was. When we arrived, Monica let us have an early check in. The Steinhubls renovated the whole place to a very modern and light design, beautiful place with big public spaces, a big Patio overlooking Susitna Mountain. The rooms were aewsome, the beds comfortable, Susitna suite with a big living room with a fireplace, Elias with a nice sideboard with lots of storage room and a nice walk in shower. The breakfast left no wishes open. It's called continantal, but Monica served fresh eggs every morning, the "eggMcmuffin" style baguette was to die for!, The egg florentine delicious and the rest of the buffet had allmost averything you wished for. Awesome sourdough bread, fresh from the local bakery - yummy! All in all, I will be back for sure. This place alone is worth a visit to Anchorage! Never mind, that you are in a 5min walking distance to downtown and the bus terminal with busses all over Anchorage for 2$ a ride! No car needed at all! Thank you Monica for this awesome memory and greeting from Germany -...
Read moreSo this review is difficult for me to write because I don’t want to share this place lol. With that said, and if I must, This cozy and inviting B&B is a must stay when you go to Anchorage.
My wife and I consider Monica our sweet “aunt from Anchorage” as she took care of us and ensured we made the best use of our time while in town (we were heading out for a cruise). Her breakfast was exactly what you would need (not too heavy or impersonally skimpy) to get your day started and she was willing to provide more if you asked.
The living area was extremely homely and very clean so much so that my wife had to tell me it’s time to go (I like staying indoors if it’s cozy). It must’ve been the vibe that the owners created because the other guests were also very calm and spoke in comfortable, relaxed and inviting tones. I’ve never felt so warm and welcomed in any hotel like how I felt here.
Lastly, Monica provided something personalized for my wife and I for our dusk-long train trip that was so wonderful and appreciated that it still leaves wonderful impression on our hearts. I won’t share it as I’m not sure if it’s something she provides all the time.
We will absolutely be back and have no intention of ever staying anywhere else...
