The Anchorage, Alaska downtown Marriott was a great location for our stay. There was road construction in front of the check in entrance, but that did not pose a problem. The valet personnel were helpful and very nice. The room we were given was modern, clean and comfortable. Our room nice view of surrounding distant mountains.
We arrived an hour early, and as expected, as expected, we were told our room was not ready, then told it would not be ready until 6pm since the people in "our" room weren't going to check out until 4pm. That was confusing, since our check in time was 4pm; we wondered why we would have to wait until 6pm.The girl at the desk said she'd move us to another room, and we could check in, making it even more confusing since we hadn't even been in any room yet.
The valet moved our luggage to our room for our one night stay. We had a high floor with a nice view. Hairs in the tub, but I rinsed it. Soon we took a walk to Simon and Seaforts to have a great dinner. We had been in AK for 10 days and had a long travel day, so we were ready to relax and get to sleep early, so as to be out of the hotel before 5:30am to take an AK RR train to Seward. Soon after returning from dinner and settling to sleep, a group with very loudly talking adults and playing children came banging into the room next door. It was not yet 10pm, so after about an hour of this I called the front desk to report the noise issue. They said they'd address it. Soon the loud adult and children's screaming, playing and crying stopped, doors banged and we fell back asleep. Within an hour, the doors slammed and the noises started again; I assume they left the room, and then later returned. After another couple of hours of this I called the desk to complain again. The noises continued even louder for 15 minutes, then doors slammed and noises stopped about midnight. The walls are so thin in this hotel and the people so loud way into the night, I slept only about 3 or 4 hours, definitely not fun! We often stay at Marriott, save and use M points, so this was quite a disappointment for our Alaska stay. I had initially reserved three different downtown hotels, ultimately choosing Marriott because of previous good experiences. On future trips to Anchorage, I will have to look in to other accommodations. If not for the thin walls and noise issues, the hotel was nice and in a good location. ~ Sleepless...
Stayed at the Marriott downtown this weekend to celebrate my sons birthday, as all he asked for this birthday was to swim. While the view from our room was amazing and the staff that we checked in with were very friendly, its unfortunate that some of the staff members were not. I went to the bar as that is the only place to get redbull, the bartender seemed irritated before he even approached me I asked for a sugar free red bull and though he seemed annoyed by this request after a moment he came back with the redbull, it was warm, I paid $6 each 8oz can of warm red bull. As I have previously tended bars I personally would have made sure to have both regular and sugarfree redbulls chilled especially on a saturday evening. As we made our way to the pool it was clean with plenty of towels and had a nice vibe, unfortunatly that was short lived as 2 intoxicated adults fully clothed came into the pool area beer in hand (at first i thought it was sprite) they grabbed a table in the opposite corner went to the resrroom to change and got in the pool, almost imeaditely the man started trying to interact with my 2 teenage neices. As this was happening the woman began doing handstands which was when I noticed she was in her underwear not a swim suit and I could clearly see through the soaked underwear. I asked my sister to stay with the kids and went to the front desk to let them know what was going on they said they would send someone in to check it out. When i got back to the pool the couple had their beer in the pool passing it back and forth. I am 9 months sober and that was not only very triggering it was extremely inappropriate in general. At that point I felt so uncomfortable that even though I previously promised my son we could swim until the pool closed I just did not feel safe and asked the kids to get out of the pool. No one from the hotel ever came to check durring the 20 minutes it took us to gather our things and get the 3 kids out. As for the room I was surprised there was not much storage (thankfully we didnt need much as we are locals and only stayed 2 nights) It was clean aside from the tiny mini fridge which was leaking from the freezer part into the fridge part. The bed was comfortable however there were no extra sheets or blankets available in the room. Over all I do not feel as though we got the experiance we paid for and expected from the Marriott...
Read moreDuring our initial arrival, in preparation of my wife's surgery, we were greeted warmly and told there was no option for upgrade. We checked into the room and noted some minor issues with cleanliness, i.e. dusty and random hair in shower stall. Nothing overly concerning.
On the day of surgery we stopped at the front desk and asked that our room be cleaned that day as we didn't have any room service while we were there prior to that day.
Upon returning to the room that evening, almost 11 hrs. later, we were disappointed to find that there had not been any service done to our room. My wife could not get in the shower or bed as neither had been cleaned.
I went to the front desk with three requests; our room to be cleaned now, a can of soup to be warmed up, and a phone to be retrieved from our valeted vehicle.
Initially I was told that there was no way to warm up the can of soup and that they could not help. I told the rep that my wife just had surgery, as she saw us wheelchair her to the room, and that she needed to eat and I needed to soup warmed up, she again said that she could do anything.
Then, to my relief, Louis, at the front desk, stepped in and said that he would see what he could do to get the soup warmed up. Jesus, the valet, came over and said that he would be happy to get the missing phone from the vehicle and ran there and back. The cook, David, then came out from the kitchen and said that he would get the soup warmed up and offered to make me anything as he know that I would be hungry too. I was brought out the soup and went back to my room so that my wife could eat and take some medicine. After about 30 mins. Lani, the housekeeper, came in and started cleaning the room, shower, and making the bed. During that time David brought up a hamburger for me along with some waters.
I'm surprised by the staff that stepped up and helped accommodate all of my requests!
I was upset that my wife had to lay on a couch while these things were done but appreciated the way most all of the staff pitched in to address our needs.
To those that I mentioned above please pass on my big "Thank You"!
Dropping the ball on making the room ready before we returned, please find out what happened so that it does not happen to...
