Today I visited this store and I'm pretty disappointed. After my two friends and I had been browsing for a few minutes, a store representative approached my friends to talk to them about some jackets they had available. What at first seemed like friendly informational chatting about the product turned into a weird informational chatting about the product being stolen and new locks being installed. While that could have been overlooked by itself, she then proceeded to take several blatant pictures of us and when I asked her if she had taken pictures she denied it. Fine, we were going to let that go, too. But then it took a sinister turn when the police arrived and the same woman was chatting with them about the incident that we obviously weren't present for. One of the officers asked her to describe the perpetrators and she immediately pointed at us and said "they were their age," which was unnecessary and made us feel like we were being profiled. One of the officers then implied that we knew the shoplifters because of our age, and then the other officer said "you guys aren't shoplifting, are you," which might seem like a tension diffuser, but in reality did not help. After this exchange, we proceeded to purchase the items we now felt conflicted about buying and left the store uncomfortable. Needless to say, this experience did not make us feel great. This is a great place to get gifts made in Alaska including crafts made by native tribes in both Alaska and neighboring Canada. This includes clothing, bags, food, kitchen items such as aprons, tea towels, etc. The storekeeper was so kind as we were hovering outside a bit early. They let us in early and understandably masked.
