I'm usually not one to leave bad reviews and I try to give people the benefit of the doubt (perhaps they've had a bad day/week, or have very little help to clean a building), but this was a rather interesting stay to say the least. I booked a room with 2 queen beds from Friday, June 16th to Sunday, June 18th. When I arrived: the front desk clerk was somewhat friendly, but he did not go over the accommodations, breakfast time, Wi-Fi information with me. He simply said, "There. You can read it" and handed me a little piece of paper with this info along with my hotel keys. He also didn't have a name tag, so I have no idea what his name was. When I got my key to my room: My hotel room was FILTHY. My room stunk when I opened the door. The carpet had not been vacuumed thoroughly for what looked like for a while. Dust was on the tv, tv stand, bathroom sink, picture frames, mirror frames, and bed headboards. There was hair in the tub and the A/C unit filters were covered in a layer of dust. I had to go out to the nearest Walmart and buy some cleaning supplies and disinfectant spray to appease my anxiety. After half an hour of trying to clean and make the room somewhat accommodating while getting rid of the stench, I left to attend a conference dinner which was being hosted at another (cleaner!) hotel. When I came back, I asked the front desk clerk if he had a "do not disturb" sign for my door. He informed me that there weren't anymore, but he'd go "check." He came back a few minutes later and said he couldn't find any. When I asked if he could check with housekeeping, he stated that they all left for the day. Which made sense since it was around 7 pm when I asked. However, when I decided that I couldn't stay at this hotel and packed up my belongings to take to my car, I saw a housekeeper leaving with her ride. I did not want to bother her, as she looked exhausted from cleaning all day. I thought about having the front desk clerk move me to another room, but seeing the filthy condition of their back stairwell hallway, which led out to the parking lot, I was disgusted. Not only did I have little confidence that their other rooms could be clean, I did not want to have breakfast at this hotel, or try their on-site pool, if it were open. The back stairwell hallway also reeked of garbage. I checked in to this hotel after 3 pm, as I had just driven in to Albuquerque from Santa Fe. Around 7 pm, after my corporate dinner, I checked out. I did not stay the two nights, but I was still charged $216, which I am still waiting for that refund. Thankfully, they did not charge me the $50 for incidentials on my credit card, but still, I would like a full refund seeing that I was only booked in that room and I left it far cleaner than when I found it. This whole time, I was patient with the front desk clerk. No need to make a huge scene. I have worked in hotels in the past, both as a front desk clerk and a housekeeper. I know the headache that comes with dealing with difficult guests and I know the body aches that come with cleaning hotel rooms. However, I also know that before a room is sold to a guest, IT MUST be INSPECTED by the head housekeeper, general manager, or front desk clerk to ensure that they are selling a clean room. If this room was inspected, that either someone is blind or they had their eyes closed. Do Better La Quinta of Albuquerque. You are giving this hotel franchise and the Wyndham name a bad reputation. I have been to other La Quintas before and had zeros issues, as they were clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. I also took photos because I was shocked...
Read moreTotal rundown mess. Thoroughly read reviews before booking; the numerical score does not tell the whole story.
It is definitely in need of a renovation. But beyond that, it's just a filthy, unkempt building that should be condemned. The carpet is filthy and is coming up from the floor. There were dirty towels in the bathroom. The bed was disgusting... Full of pubes or some other thick hair and dirt. I've stayed in some gross places, but this one takes the cake...
Service was adequate. The front desk guy switched our room after some asking. Sadly, the new room was equally gross. Since we booked through Expedia, we just dealt with it for one night... Consider elsewhere unless you're in a pinch.
The owners need to rejuvenate this place .. it's one thing if the place is old, but it's a problem if the housekeeping staff aren't maintaining a basic level of hygiene in the rooms.
Since the owner response asked for elaboration, certainly.
We arrived for a one-night stay early in the evening. We checked in to a room on the third floor. After taking the world's slowest single elevator, we swiped into the room using an old-fashioned magnetic swipe card. When we arrived in the room, we found a smattering of soap and conditioner, but no shampoo. We also found a dirty towel sitting on the toilet, next to the bathtub with blackened, cracked caulking. The rest of the room was in decent shape, although we didn't look to closely. The carpet was dated.
We washed our hands in the sink, and sadly, the sink was clogged and drained very slowly. We asked for shampoo, only to get more bottles of conditioner. We asked for a new room later, at which point the staff member claimed all the rooms were fully booked.
After some back and forth, he asked if we had used the room and indicated he could possibly switch us with someone that hadn't yet checked in, so long as he could reuse the room we left without having to involve housekeeping.
Great, so we go to the new room, also on the third floor. This time, the sink worked, but the towels were stained (yellow white, red), and mismatched (like different brands). Then, we looked at the bed, and oh no: a dirty comforter, but even dirtier sheets. I do not believe for one second that housekeeping cleaned the room or changed the sheets. There were many long, dark hairs strewn within the sheets, as well as what I can only imagine was dirt or flakes. Looked like someone with really hairy legs had slept there recently. No offense to the previous guest, but I would expect clean sheets.
Unfortunately, booking through Expedia makes things cheaper, but it also makes it difficult to deal with changing the booking. It was late at night and we had an early start. We bit the bullet, and I kept my clothes on, laid a towel on top of the bed, and slept over the covers.
The next morning, I showered, somehow felt dirtier after using the towel, and got the hell out of there without touching...
Read moreThis will be my 3rd time staying here. I’m not giving it 5 stars because of the decor or the basic breakfast, but the ease of check in, great location to a lot of stuff as well as being near the freeway. But most of all, the people that work here have the best attitude. And I’ll take friendly service over decor looks anytime.
I was a little late after breakfast was done (9am) but there were some muffins left in the tray and I asked if I could have one. The attendant not only allowed me to have that muffin but offered what she had in the back and asked if I wanted anything else.
The food is normally very basic: waffles, muffins, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, coffee. But they keep everything stocked up and make sure you have what they do offer.
For as busy and as old as this place is it was overall fairly clean. You can hear people in their rooms when you’re walking through the hallway, but you can’t hear anything when inside your room. Even the rooms facing the freeway you can’t really hear any traffic.
The room was clean, bed was soft, sheets and towels were clean, free Wi-Fi, had a coffee maker and cups in the room. And not a single bug during my stay. They have an all in one A/C and heater unit that can be set by temperature or constant. They also have a laundry room and ice machine on both floors.
The parking lot, which is very well lit at night, although packed every night, has plenty of parking spaces around the property. I always get to my room late and still manage to find a spot no matter what. And what’s great is that no matter where you park there’s always an entrance close that makes it easy to get to your room.
There’s an elevator in the middle but all stairwells are well lit and clean. Not like the scary dark concrete stairwells in horror movies.
I also book through a 3rd party app on my phone and I wanted to extend my stay. But because there wasn’t an option to do that in the app the front desk clerk explained to me the process to make sure I got the same deal as when I checked in. And because of the 3rd party process she also made sure I stayed in the same room. Very pleasant to deal with, very professional, and accommodating.
They’re pet friendly as well. The place could use a little update on the decor but you get what you pay for. This place is one of the few lower priced hotels in this area and, in my opinion, also one of the safest areas in town. I used to live here in Albq but now I just visit once in a while. And unless I hit the lottery I’ll always check this place first to see if they have...
