Where do I begin. So I've traveled for my job for 19 years and stay at various lodging weekly. Its all around the eastern United States. The reason I say this is because it allows me to speak from experience. I've stayed at Marriott affiliated hotels several times in the past. So this trip was NOT work related but a short family getaway. It started great as I called the hotel early and asked when I could check in because it's been a few years since I've stayed at a Marriott facility and wasn't 100% on their check-in time. I was told I could check in early because of a no show from the prior night. We check in drop our belongings on the 3rd floor and run. We had a commitment to attend all day and returned around 8p.m. My wife, son and I were back to clean up. Our son went 1st then the wife and I. After getting out and walking the room I noticed a brown wrapper sticking out under my sons pillow. He was asleep so I gently pulled on it. It was a muffin wrapper completely covered in blue and white fuzzy mold! I walked down to the front desk and the front desk girl was very polite. She was apologetic and sent an email to the head of housekeeping and the manager to have our room cleaned and the bedding changed on both beds. So we leave the next morning at 6a.m. and when we return at 7 p.m. My wife and I get off the elevator and immediately see that our door is propped open via the deadbolt. I was definitely not happy with this because our belongings were in this room. Go into the room and look for someone or anything missing and see nothing. See that "NOTHING" was done at all with our room. NO new linens on the beds, the bathroom towels, wash cloths, hand towels and bath mat were not replaced. So again I head to the front desk. This getting ridiculous at this point. "A Marriott is totally lacking at any quality control or hospitality at this point. It's embarrassing for them to totally fail at what they stand for as a group". So the girl at the front desk was the same girl from the night before. She was polite and helpful again this time except for one insinuating comment. That I probably didn't shut my door. However to the contrary I most certainly did and made sure it was before leaving in the morning. The front desk girl had sent an email to the GM and assured me that she would contact me the next day at some point. On my way home the GM called and was very sub-par. She also stated I could've left the door open and was quick to offer a $40 discount for night 1 of 2. She wasn't willing to accept any responsibility for the lack of actions of the cleaning staff. It was disgusting to bring my family into such a filthy environment. SEE ATTACHED PICTURES!! You'll understand after you see these. Disgusting hairs covered the separating walls between rooms. There was food or boogers on the curtains. I could've taken 100 more pictures of these disgusting walls but just wanted to leave. Look close they look like nose hairs or public hairs. Marriott in Altoona, PA is NASTY!!...
Read moreWorst experience ever at a Marriott property. Checked in at the Fairfield Inn for four nights on a Wednesday, and as a Titanium Elite Lifetime Member, I requested and expected to receive an upgrade, but was told no upgrades were available. That was questionable, as the property was half empty. The room my wife and I were given was extremely small, with only a single chair and no couch, and totally inadequate closet space. That was difficult for my wife and me. The air conditioning system was also loud and not functioning properly. Whether you set it at 60 or 70, the temperature remained the same. The room was never cleaned the entire time we were there. The pool was also closed the entire time we were there. We also had a bizarre incident in the laundry room on Saturday evening, which was monopolized by a man who appeared to be deranged, as he was making guttural noises and had a wild look in his eyes. The guy took up all of the washers and dryers for two consecutive loads of clothes. He also brought three extremely large hampers with him to the laundry room. Who does that at a hotel? Even more bizarre was the fact that he actually folded the wet clothes before placing them carefully in the dryers! I guess he thought they would come out still folded. He also left dry clothes in the dryers for at least 30 minutes after their cycles ended. I reported all of this to the front desk but the two men there refused to do anything about it. They advised me to remove the dry clothes the guy left in the dryers. There was no way I was going to do so, given the guy's bizarre demeanor and potential instability. And then there was one more unusual problem that developed on Sunday morning, the day we were checking out. I received an email with a copy of our final bill, which was accurate. However, we always like to get a paper copy, but when my wife went to the front desk and received a printed copy, she discovered that the hotel had charged us for Sunday night as well. When my wife requested that Sunday be deleted, the woman at the desk said our reservation was for five nights, which was totally false. I kept a copy of the reservation, which was for four nights, and the bill I was sent earlier Sunday morning by email correctly charged us for four nights. The woman finally corrected our bill. I have never experienced this kind of incompetence at the front desk at any Marriott or any other hotel chain property. Needless to say, we will never stay at this...
Read moreI have spent the last few years at this hotel during a family celebration and I have never felt the disrespect from the staff at this location and the lack of professionalism. The way my family was approached and spoke to as “you people” was complete discrimination. Ben the staff member at the front approached and spoke with such ignorance yelling in people’s faces, waving his finger, and stomping around like a young child having a tantrum. As a person in his role should be held accountable and respectful to all guest of any race. Dakota was also rude and disrespectful when speaking to the guest in the lobby. Ben and Dakota called the police for a “fight that occurred” which was false accusations as the police arrived and nothing happened, they examined the situation and according to the policy our group did nothing wrong as the patio shuts down at 11pm and this was occurring prior: The manager, John arrived later after and automatically approached the situation in a nasty way yelling, then continued to say “I’m calling the police” after they left the first time. I would hope the Marriott would hold these individuals accountable for their actions along with their discrimination and begin to offer how to approach guest appropriately and speak in a professional manner without attacking individuals of color. The Marriott should be ashamed and embarrassed of the Altoona location and I would never recommend anyone...
