BUYER BEWARE - HOTEL OWNERS ARE THIEVES⌠THEY STOLE MY MONEY!!! I made a reservation for two nights with a pre-paid award member rate which included Free Cancellation up through the day before my stay. I phoned the hotel to modify my reservation from two nights to one night two weeks before my stay, and I was told that the hotel would not accommodate my request. I could however stay for one night, but I would be charged for two nights⌠HUH? Since I did not wish to pay for an extra night I would not be using, I requested to cancel my reservation as I had booked with a clear free cancellation policy which I had in writing. I was then informed that hotel refused to cancel my reservation and they would not refund my payment. When I expressed frustration and disbelief with the hotelâs actions, I was told âI could call corporateâ.
So, I did call corporate and then spent three hours on the phone with various levels of Choice Hotels' customer service. Although every person I spoke to at Choice customer service agreed that the hotel should/must refund my payment, the local hotel management refused to follow the written cancellation policy under my reservation and refund my payment. I was also dumbfounded to learn that Choice customer service appears to be powerless to enforce Choice Corporate Policy even when the local hotel property is in the wrong! So, it was a total waste of a very frustrating three hours to right the hotelâs wrong and secure a refund.
Needless to say that I will never be staying in this hotel due to their unscrupulous, unprofessional actions, and I think that you should consider whether you wish to stay in a hotel that does not honor written reservation policies and has total disregard for their customers. Buyer Beware, as this establishment is managed by unethical, dishonorable people who may not honor any reservation or commitment made to you as well. Be very careful before giving them any deposit or advance down payment.
There are many other hotels in the area that are cleaner and of higher quality, and I would advise that you take a 'Hard Pass' on staying at this Quality Inn in Altoona, PA. In a quick read of other comments re: this hotel, I see that others have suffered the same, or similar, treatment/problems as I did. This suggests that the issue described above, is not a one-off situation, but rather a more routine business practice by this hotel and thus even more concerning!
The hotel owners are Vishalkumar Patel and Rajendrakumar Patel and they should not be...

The top layer of bedding had a small stain. It was at the feet end so my wife and I managed.
There were pistachios wedged between bed and dresser.
The room keys no longer worked around 10:30AM on the day we were checking out. When we brought to staffâs attention when leaving we were told it typically shuts off at 11:00AM. This is an issue because check out is at noon. My child had to use the restroom and fortunately a housekeeper assisted and helped wife and child get into room. I was downstairs cleaning car for departure. This also wasnât a daylight saving time issue as the exact same thing happened during a previous stay.
While Iâm happy the housekeeper assisted with issue detailed above, thatâs also a big issue. How did she know that the individuals trying to access the room were the correct individuals? Feel like this shouldnât happen for security reasons.
My child got sick during the middle of the night and vomited on the bed. Obviously, not a hotel issue but what was concerning is Kevin at the front desk told me he didnât have access to the linen closet. We managed with pull out couch linens but I was worried my daughter would need more and we would be out of luck. Thankfully, that didnât happen but it was another worry during a very difficult moment.
All the staff interactions were great. Above is criticism of room issues only. We have stayed at this hotel multiple times and #1 and #4 happened before. Please take this feedback seriously as even someone as loyal as me may have to consider other...
