Dear Perkins:
If you want to charge 5 Star meal prices, then you better hire cooks capable of meeting those standards! I've had better, fresher cafeteria food!
I don't understand how the Altoona Perkins has any good reviews. I went there with my son this morning, and while the waitress was very nice and accommodating, the food was LOUSY. The blueberry pancakes didn't look bad, but they tasted burnt which indicates their grill was likely dirty. My son told me to throw them in the garbage, and this is coming from a kid I've had to stop from eating candy he dropped on the bathroom floor. The sickly yellow, folded over plastic substance on my plate didn't even resemble scrambled eggs, but that's what the menu called it. The hash browns were a congealed lump of overcooked potato beneath the crusty top layer, and the country gravy covering my hockey puck of a biscuit had a thick, rubbery skin covering it by the time our food made it out from under the heat lamps. The bacon was okay, but it's hard to screw up bacon. By the way, they ought to check those lamps, because everything was also lukewarm by the time we got it. There were maybe three other occupied tables in the entire restaurant- why so much time under the lamps? To sum it up in my son's words: "YUCK! Throw it in the garbage!"
Really wishing I would have had it in me to tell them to shove their overpriced bill before we left- twenty bucks for...
Read moreI really enjoyed my first time here after coming from a funeral service with my family members. They got the back room for a bigger group of people with tables set up since there was roughly a dozen of us.
Our waitress's name i don't remember but she had natural red hair from what i know. She was friendly while taking people's orders from going around all the connected tables besides turning the ceiling fans on. She got mixed up a bit on drinks, so it was only a small mistake that she fixed later. So that was no big deal.
I ordered a salad from them that was called a Southern Avacado Chicken with a small apple juice and regular size cup of water. The salad was so good with the Chipotle dressing i drizzled on top with a spoon. I actually cleaned my plate as well by the time everyone else finished while waiting on me to finish my plate. The salad also had other things besides the blackened chicken and slices of avocado like shredded cheese, spinach leaves, and I'm guess the corn was grill. I might be wrong on the corn.
So after this being my first time to this i wish i could come back here again another time, although i have to check out of a hotel tomorrow to go back home.
I enjoyed my time here...
Read moreI am one who very very rarely will post a review on a site unless it was so exceptional or extremely horrible. Unfortunately this is the latter. My wife decided to pick me up a coconut cream pie over fathers day weekend as it is one of my favorites and instead of driving to Dave's Dream she was going by Perkins and decided to give it a try. Price 14.99 so you expect something good, WRONG!!! first when pie was cut and removed from pan the filing/ cream ran out the sides. The crust was stuck to bottom of the pan and this was for all pieces. Next the yellow cream was so minimal I would say less than 1/4 inch and rest was meringue/ cream. Then the taste ughhh !!! Horrible!!! Basically no coconut flavor at all and tasted like 10lbs of sugar. I am one who was raised on not to waste food and generally will eat something even if it is not the most palatable but in a very rare case here I had to throw out over half the pie. I literally got sick when I tried a 2nd piece the next day and my wife didn't even finish her first piece. Not sure how Perkins can claim as making great pies because this without any doubt is the worst I ever had in my life and I'm no youngster!!!!. ...
