These folks treated us like millionaires from greeting us at the entrance kiosk to packing the rest of the scrumptious meals up to go. The server took lots of time with us, and it wasn't schmoozing. She was a "people person" who wanted to do her best to make our meal into a great memory -- and she succeeded! Not only did she have a cheerful demeanor, but she got the entire order correct the first time. She was quick to deliver our drinks and food, which came piping hot! (Ok, not the drinks! Haha!)
The salad was just-from-the-garden fresh and was topped with a flavorful Italian house dressing. I'm not much of a salad person but this salad definitely got my attention, in a good way! The entrees (mine was lasagna and my friend's was ravioli) were very generous portions; I had mine for lunch the following day and still walked -- uh, waddled -- out of the restaurant completely satisfied.
The restaurant manager also visited our table asking up about our server's service (definitely thumbs up) and food quality (more thumbs up). She also seemed genuinely interested in our experience there. Then, she asked where we were from and what brought us to town. My friend let it slip that it was a sightseeing day trip for my birthday and dinner was the final touch to the day. The manager smiled and immediately comped my dessert. Then she discovered my friend also had a recent birthday and comped her dessert too! Really?!? So awesome! However, no one sang Happy Birthday, for which I was very grateful.
The place was super clean. I'm not sure about the bathrooms because neither of us went. But my guess is that they were clean as well.
People seemed to work well as a team. I witnessed servers helping each other with a pleasant camaraderie. This increased the whole social value of dining there. The ambience was relaxed and the decor, classy and cultural Italian themed (as one might expect).
The price/food value was good, very reasonable for a more upscale sit-down dinner. We were pleasantly surprised when the bill came. Rather, my friend was very happy with the bill. I didn't have to pay because it was my birthday! ( So, yes, happy.)
So, the bottom line: would I go there again? Oh yes! I would dine there again in a New York minute! There are lots of great restaurants in Altoona, but I encourage you to...
Read moreSo this Evening my girlfriend and I came to this olive garden in hopes of having a nice date night. It has been awhile and we were excited. Well on the way there (45 minute drive ) I started to feel sick, but decided sense we were almost there that we would still try to eat. Seating went as usual and the staff were nice. I started feeling worse and worse and had a fever. So my girlfriend gave our orders and I tried to eat and drink but it wasn't working. Eventually I had to go out to the car and lay down while my girlfriend waited for our food and to tell the waiter that we needed boxes. In this time other customers started to talk to the point that she could hear them calling her pathetic and that I must have left her. I didn't not. Just didn't want to throw up in front of everyone. I asked her over text mutiple times if everything was okay and not wanting to cause any probablems told me everything was okay and that she was just waiting for the food. For at least and hour. It came to the point where the waiter asked her where her food was. He had never put it in. I'm knowing what was going on she finally comes to the car with tears in her eyes and begins to tell me what Happened. This was supposed to be a nice date and we have never had issues before and went above and beyond but tonight was just total disregard. Between staff and other customers it is one of the worst experiences we have had to go through at a restaurant as a couple. Not sure if we will be back or not. There is no reason she should have been that embarrassed or...
Read moreWell the service was decent and the food was good at my most recent dining experience, but it seems like the portion sizes have gone down considerably. I went on a Sunday mid afternoon hoping to beat the rush, but it was packed. The wait wasn't too long, probably because most parties had four or more, and it was just my husband and I for our party. We got our drinks and appetizer fairly quickly considering how busy it was, but we only got two breadsticks total. Granted, I know they're free refills and all, but you used to get five at a time. Our bowl of salad was seriously lacking as well; usually there's enough for three bowls, but not this time. I was also kind of bummed we didn't get offered our samples of wine (minor inconvenience though). Anyway, the food tasted great, but again, the serving sizes were tiny. My hubby got the never ending stuffed pasta and the stuffed shells were big enough, but I think he got maybe a dozen of the stuffed ziti noodles and three large raviolis. However, the best part of my meal was the dozen Andes mints the waitress gave me at the end haha. I don't think I'll be going back to OG anytime soon, but it was a half decent...
