We stayed at the Anaheim for a Cheer competition this past weekend. Upon arrival I thought the lobby was adorable. We checked in and got our keys with a map of where our room was. We set out to find out room and noticed every entrance to our room was taped off as they were redoing the flooring. We walked the hotel multiple times trying find how to get to our room. We ran into a nice maintenance guy named Marco that took us around and through the parking lot to get to our room. We got in to our room and it was smelly. Our fridge stunk as well. I figured no big the hotel is older. We got settled then went through a short cut we were told about that had us walk through bushes to get to the lobby. We asked how long the floor maintenance would take and how long we would have to cut through the bushes or walk clear around the parking lot. We were told 2 days. Frustrating but oh well. We got back to our room after getting some dinner and realized how loud it was. Our room faced the road our window was off the track and wouldn't close all the way. We were exhausted and planned on calling the next morning. We were getting thing ready for comp the next day and without notice our water was turned off. We called the lobby and asked for management to contact us. The water was out for 30 minutes. When I asked why there was no notice the manager stated there was an emergency and too many units to contact. A quick call to all the rooms to communicate the issue would have been plenty. The manager stated she understood the frustration. As well as the other issue we had encounter namely the flooring and our window. She asked if we wanted to change the room and I said no because the issues we were having would have been the same regardless. She then offered us a $75 credit to the pizza restaurant attached to the hotel, and would have the maintenance man come fix the window. I was so frustrated with the call I accepted and hung up. First of all there were two of us, the cheer team had their food taken care of and we were only there for another day. Plus after reading reviews I read credits other customers were promised for their own set of issues were never applied. I was not getting stuck paying for $75 worth of pizza. We DID NOT use the credit. While I was on this call my daughter's friend had a homeless man knock on her door. They were all getting ready for comp and we're going back and forth to each other's rooms and to the coaches rooms. They were all staying in the same building. How scary is that for those girls to have a homeless man knocking on doors. Our maintenance man came and fixed our window and acted put out as to why we wanted our window fixed... The only positive was how close The Anaheim is to Disney. The stay in it's entirety was awful. I was so disappointed as the lobby and outside areas look so fun. The rooms are old and run down. They smell bad and the customer service could use some help. I will gladly stay further from Disney for a safer, cleaner stay at another hotel. Attached are pictures of the window that we used hangers to help keep closed, the mini bottles from the homeless people by our teams building and the bushes we were told to cut through. Save time and stress and go...
Read moreIt was meh overall. Don't plan on returning.
Pros: Walking distance to a lot, including the parks and downtown Disney. Pool Pizza place is convenient (pricey though)
Cons: Communication is completely lacking... Let me count the ways...
-We tried to check in early (11) and were told to go exploring and we'd get a text when the room was ready ("soon"). Soon turned out to be a few hours later (~4). I get that it's no guarantee to be able to check in early, but soon to me isn't more than an hour or two.
We tried to request a late checkout at our arrival. We were told that we couldn't request that until the day of and that after 6am would be ok to call. We called at 6:10 am only to find out that we had to wait until 8:30am to call for this request (when housekeeping arrived). This didn't work for our plans and we needed to know earlier if it would be allowed. We fully understood that it would be an extra fee. I've never encountered a hotel that wasn't able to give you an answer about a late check out at your arrival...it would have been ok if it was a no, just tell me without giving the run around. Super frustrating to plan around.
Husband left the room early to get coffee. Came back and the key card wasn't working. The front desk would not let him get it fixed without me because the reservation was in my name. I understand safety precautions, but how about either asking if we'd like to have other names on the account at check in, or ask for his ID (same last name, etc) to prove that he's a guest too. Instead, I needed to go down to get it fixed. They added his name after I asked. Good thing too, because his card stopped working again later.
The hotel store has a sign on it that says always open (see photo). If it's locked, you can go to the front desk. We wanted to wash clothes before leaving. I asked the front desk if I could buy detergent at 6:30am. They told me that the store didn't open until 8:30. How is a store that is always open, closed until 8:30? Instead of arguing, we walked to Walgreens to purchase some detergent because I'd rather give them my money than the hotel at that point.
The room was clean, but a bit outdated. That part didn't bother me like the lack of communication. Sharing for your awareness..
Breakfast - the pizza place sells it. There's not really signage when you walk in. You have to go all the way to the counter at the end of the restaurant to order breakfast. It's good, but pricey. Biggest gripe there was not knowing where to go to order the first day. A few people walk in any walk out before ordering breakfast because the menus when you first walk in are pizza only. They'd keep more business with more breakfast signage on...
Read moreWe booked this room part of a Disneyland vacation package. This “hotel” is more of a “motel.” It has an old 1950s retro Hollywood vibe. If you’re looking for a more hotel-like accommodation, this is not the place for you. We arrived early (before noon) and were able to check in, which was great… that was… until we got to the room they assigned us. The room was big with 2 king-sized beds. The shower/toilet were separate from the sink/vanity area, which featured 2 sinks. Reading this, you would think the room we got was amazing until you see how dated everything is. The carpet was disgustingly stained and dirty. Bed sheet covers had several stains, and worst of all… the shower was covered in black mold! I wish I was exaggerating! The toilet clogged after the first use, and no hand soap was provided. I instantly went back to the front desk and asked for a new room. The ladies at the front desk were very apologetic and offered to give me a tour of 2 other rooms. They had someone escort me to these rooms (which was very nice of them). Both of the rooms they showed me were dated and not as large but much cleaner… at least no mold in the shower (although the towel racks were awfully rusted) and a bonus… they had hand soap to wash our hands. We ended up switching rooms and went about our vacation. Upon returning to our room after a long day in the parks, we noticed the shower water pressure was terrible ( a trickle of water) and the temperature of the water was… temperamental to say the least. Constantly fluctuating from hot to freezing cold. Our showers during our stay were not satisfying, and because the water pressure was so bad, we spent a lot of time just trying to wet our bodies. The only good things I can say about the room we switched to is that it featured a balcony (which we never ended up using), the beds were very comfortable, and they cleaned our room/made our beds daily. The A/C came from a wall unit but was very good. The only reason why I would recommend anyone to stay here is for its location. A 5-minute walk to the parks! Other than that, unless you are a local who just needs a place to crash during your staycation (we flew across the country to visit Walt’s original park), I would not recommend this place and more than likely… won’t be staying here again when we visit again in...
