Girl's Solo Trip: 4-Day, 3-Night Washington DC Guide (Car-Free Edition)

I stayed here for 7 days in room 1611 (Jan 29 - Feb 5, 2022) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Every staff member was nice. The décor was lovely around the hotel and inside the room. I asked for a nice view and was pleasantly surprised when I drew the blinds to see National Cathedral in the distance. Whomever was doing the housekeeping, did it well and did it thoughtfully. She took care of my stuff better than I did. I came back to the room one day to see my toothbrush, instead laying on the countertop how I placed it, was instead laying on a nicely folded hand towel. That made me smile and think, "How nice of that lady. She didn't just take care of my room, but she took care of me in a subtle, thoughtful way." It was neat to think the person I barely caught a glimpse of once and whom I never spoke to was taking such wonderful care of me and my room. Every day I came back, I was at ease at how pristine the room appeared. Please thank her for me and give her a bonus--better yet a raise. If I could offer suggestions on where you might make improvements, it would be in how customers access their Netflix, Disney+, Pandora on your television (which was a generous size I might add). Instead of requiring us to cast from the phone to the monitor--which required me re-connecting to the TV every time I came back to the room--I prefer logging into these services directly from the TV (i.e. I input my username and passwords into these services directly within the TV's settings) and then they stay connected the rest of my stay. Then, at the end of my trip, assure me with a notice within the settings area that my logins will all be logged out of upon my stay ending. A hotel employed that method, and in comparison to Hyatt, I thought theirs was more convenient and offered me a one-time setup and go vs. a daily hassle. While I loved my room, I thought the water pressure was lackluster. I spoke with several of my classmates, however, and none of them had the Europeans-style shower like I did. Their more classic wall mounted shower head was giving them all generous water pressure. If that shower-style was the cost of me having that wonderful view, then I'm glad I made that trade-off. However, it was annoying not feeling like I was getting a good cleansing in the shower. Might be an issue if I bring my family next time. Again, I stayed their for 7 days. I ate daily at both the Clubhouse and their bar-restaurant. Both were excellent. A Pilipino hostess, I believe named Emee, was a real treat. She was so sweet, kind, and just made me smile. And the food at the bar-restaurant was always good. I had the shrimp linguini, pizza, burger, spinach and steak rolls, and the chicken wings and crab dip. I like ever single one. Saved me a trip in the cold too. Thank you guys for the great stay.

We had a great stay at Hyatt Centric Arlington on the weekend after Thanksgiving 2024. We have reserved two rooms, both 2 queen beds (each with 2 adults and 2 kids. one of the rooms, the kids are 6 and 9). Days before arrival, I started texting with the hotel and dealt with Mahmut. He was great, helping us scoring one of the room to be a suite (we prefer to keep one room as 2 queens, to avoid having to use sofa bed). We got 1 room upgrade to executive suite high floor and the other room upgraded to 2 queen beds high floor. The transaction over the text was simple and having a courteous knowledgeable customer service like Mahmut was awesome. Check-in/arrival/valet Valet was simple. Check-in was relatively smooth. We got in early (before noon), room was not available. The front desk actually said there are charges to check in early, and I asked whether that would apply for Globalist too (she told me without first checking if status of guests. I think she should always check first). Found out the 2 queen beds room would be available in 10 mins, so we waited, put our luggages in that room and then left to go to downtown DC. Since we had to go to front desk several times for check in, I dealt with several staffs. I would say, some while not rude, doesn't seem as friendly. I am not disappointed nor complaining, but sometimes you just feel that some front desk staffs have that much friendly aura, while some staffs seem to lack it slightly. Location I think HC Arlington is actually great location. You can probably walk across the bridge to Georgetown, but it was super cold that day and we don't want to freeze. Plus we wanted to visit the smithsonian museums along with national mall, so we took Uber. This is the first time I stayed outside of downtown DC and after experiencing this, I would actually come back to HC Arlington over other Hyatt hotels in downtown DC. Room Overall, it is great. It was clean. Beds were comfortable. We enjoyed our stay. Breakfast As Globalist, we have breakfast buffet on 2nd floor. The spread was decent. We enjoyed breakfast for both mornings we were there. Service was great too. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend HC Arlington.

If you're looking for a true, one-star experience, look no further. If you want your car abused by the valet, this is the place!

The front desk staff are excellent - polite, courteous, helpful. The valet staff on the other hand, an absolute joke. Jake was polite and apologetic, and Diamond was awesome and professional at check-in.

As for the rest: I intentionally booked self-parking through a third party app because I did not want to valet my car. The booking was specifically listed as self park. I would not have stayed at the hotel to begin with if I didn't have this option. My car is nothing special, a salvage title 2017 Camry in fact.

I got to the hotel and the first valet was friendly and understanding. I check in and go back to my car, and a different valet approaches me telling me I can't self park. We have a back and forth for several minutes before he decides to let me park my car. The borderline argument I had to have with the valet was incredibly frustrating because nothing he said made sense, and he admitted several times he wasn't even sure of what he was saying. Night ruined.

The next morning I check out and let the front desk know that I'm self parked and will be leaving. They tell me to press the "assistance" button and they can buzz me through the gate. I get to the gate and press the button several times. Nothing. Apparently the front desk never got the call from the kiosk.

In the meantime, the valet working the morning shift (different than over night) was pulling a car up for another guest. He waits impatiently behind me, unable to get through the gate, before getting out of the car and yelling at me to pay the ticket cost! I tell him I've already paid and he opens the gate with his pass and goes back to the other guests' car. Bad start to the morning.

While at the gate however, I got to see an episode of exactly why I didn't want to valet my car in progress. That same valet who yelled at me was driving the other guests' car extremely rough (another standard sedan, but still highly irresponsible) while pulling in behind me.

I will never be back due to the parking disaster, conflicting information from the valets, and rude and disrespectful treatment from the valets that I didn't even ask to deal with. The towels and sheets were stained and the room smelled musty too, but that almost doesn't even matter compared to the level of frustration from the...
