I stay at Marriott properties regularly, and my experience at the Moxy Asheville was one of the worst.
My first room was genuinely disgusting—the bed clearly hadn't been cleaned (see photo for how unmade it was when I walked in). There was no top sheet, and the pillows and flat sheet were covered in hair and some foreign substances. The floors and bathroom also looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in quite some time. I immediately requested a new room.
While the second room had a clean bed, the floors and shower were still dirty, and the bed was very uncomfortable. I called the front desk to request softer pillows and was told, essentially, sorry can’t help you.
There were no basic necessities in the room—not even hand soap or washcloths. When I called the front desk for these items, I was repeatedly told to help myself from the “stash closet,” like it wasn’t their problem. My room wasn’t close to this closet, and when you’re in pajamas at night and realize you don’t have what you need to wash your face, the last thing you want is to schlep down the hall for basic hygiene items.
Oh, and there’s no iron in your room. If you need an iron and ironing board, be prepared to walk down the hallway in your pajamas and carry those back too. Not at all awkward to carry an ironing board down a full, long hallway in your pjs.
The level of cleanliness, comfort, and service was far below what I expect from any Marriott property.
Editing as a reply to the hotel: I did talk with the front desk when i initially switched rooms and was told my new room was the “very last one”.
As for the standards of the Moxy- is it standard to not have hand soap in the room? Are guests supposed to not wash their hands after using the restroom? Are washcloths also not standard?
I also failed to mention that there was NOT an iron in the stash closet- nor was there a steamer in my room. I had to walk to the desk and the very very kind receptionist had to go to two different floors and check the housekeeping closet to even find one. I don’t think any of these things have to do with the Moxy not being a fit for me (and btw- I’ve stayed in Moxy properties before).
While I appreciate the gesture, this was a business trip paid for by my company. What would have been more meaningful would have been for the situation to have been resolved the many times I called and went down to the front desk - or when I showed these photos to the hotel manager. I probably wouldn’t have posted a review in the...
Read moreJust stayed at this new hotel this weekend and while it’s very nice in many ways, it was also a bit of a let down, I wish I could choose 3.8. I had no idea until we checked in that it has a bit of a “hostel style” (the words used by someone at the front desk) and the room would be so so small. We booked a room with two queens with the idea of having two people per bed. The photos of bathrooms/rooms with two beds on the site looked way bigger than this room. There is barely any space between the foot of the first bed and the side of the next making it difficult for the person sleeping against the wall. The one open space on the left of the room is only enough space for one person to get through, so it’s single file and quite annoying when you and another person are moving through the room. I meant to take a better photo of the sink but it’s very small and directly to the left of where I’m taking the bed photo. It’s in the room and there’s not any space for someone to be standing at the sink and another person to come out of the toilet/shower closet at the same time. Everything from the bathroom can be heard in the room. No closets (hooks and hangers on the wall) nowhere to store luggage, just a foldable very small table hanging on the wall, but if it’s out have fun navigating around it. If you need more towels/supplies you have to walk to a closet and get it yourself. This type of room works better for two people max but it’s still pretty annoying navigating around each other. Rooms like this can be great and it’s still very nice in some ways, but the purpose of rooms like these are to save money and my biggest frustration with this situation is that I spent over $400 for one night in this place. That is entirely too much money for a hostile. The decor is great and with everything being new it’s mostly super clean. I only say mostly because I was a surprised to open a side table that slides out from under the bed and find crumbs and a hair. The staff was very friendly and the lobby was a really cool vibe to sit and have a drink but for this price the two other Marriott brand hotels, the Aloft and The AC are way better options. The location is fantastic if you’re going to a show at orange peel or rabbit rabbit but there are others close by too. Great for a single or couple and fine for just crashing one night, but probably wouldn’t stay here again...
Read moreI have stayed in many hotels throughout the southeast for business. The Moxy in Asheville is one of my favorites. The staff make the experience even that much better. Katie the Guest Services Manager goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is comfortable and that all aspects of the hotel are met to high standards. Ms. Becky behind the bar is just a delight to talk with and she is always on top of things even during a push.||The hotel has a hip style and I understand it’s not for everyone. The rooms are minimalist but let’s be real, who really uses dressers in hotels. The peg board style hangers for clothing is perfect for my week long stays. The stash closet is the best. Need more towels, iron, ice bucket, razor, hangers. toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine products, etc.?! The stash closet has it and you don’t have to call the front desk. Just walk to the elevators and get all you need.||I don’t need all the frills of a 5 star hotel and I sure as heck don’t want to pay those prices. The price point of the Asheville Moxy, the cleanliness, and walkability of this area can’t be matched. There is so much great food and breweries within blocks. I don’t go to hotels to live in the room even on business trips. ||I have stayed many, many, nights in this hotel and are there places where I don’t have to pay for parking, where I get a free (crappy) continental breakfast… but I still end up coming back to this location.||I read some of the Google reviews posted that are less than 4 stars and can help but chuckle. If you want white glove service or to pay $500 dollars a night then the Moxy is just not for you. For the price point you can’t beat this hotel, hands down. Saw someone state I’m platinum elite but I give it one star bc the body wash was empty and wanted a discount bc of it LOL… give me a break I’ve hit the lifetime milestone on multiple levels. Trust me, read about the Moxy and its style. If that style intrigues you then this Moxy goes above and beyond. Remember not all Marriott hotels are the same, they are franchises now so quality can vary WILDLY. However this Moxy and especially the staff...
