My family and a small portion of my son’s hockey team decided to stay at the St. Moritz for the close proximity to the hockey arena. On Saturday night 10/26/24 we enjoyed a team dinner and swim outside on the patio at 5pm, at 7pm the owner of the Moritz (who lives on the property) closed the pool (pool time as stated on the property is 9pm closure)our kids decided to continue playing hide and seek outside as they should at 12yo. The owner repeatedly yelled at kids “where are your parents” who were all on the patio supervising. The team then decided to play football on a quiet secluded street off property (because of the owner)while being supervised by 12 parents. The owner yelled at the kids and parents on multiple occasions to tell us this is unacceptable behavior, we were “terrible parents”, and he was going to “kick us out”. When the owner was asked about quiet times as stated in the hotel to be 10pm he continued to say we were bad parents and this was all unacceptable. The owner who lives in the property does not seem to be family friendly, he was not open to reason or discussion, he did not seem to be concerned to kick out multiple families with small children to the street even though no violation had been made per the rules. I would like to add I have been in many situations with hockey teams riding elevators, ding dong ditching, and generally trashing hotels. Our small team was respectful and simply trying to play outside at respectable hours at moderate noise levels. This was a very disappointing situation and experience. I will never return or recommend. The staff working reception at check in was extremely professional and pilot. Wish I could say the same...
Read moreI have stayed at this hostel/hotel several times and in several different type rooms over the years. It's not a fancy place, perhaps 2 star, but clean and comfortable. There is no A/C since there aren't usually but a few weeks of hot weather in the mountains, so hopefully you will not visit during that time. Most rooms have small fans. This hotel is very accommodating to people who bike, backpack or those passing through that only need a one night stay. Some rooms are hostel type rooms with shared restrooms/showers, some have triple beds and ensuite bathrooms as well as hotel type rooms. I have never found a place in Aspen that doesn't require at least 2 nights which St.Moritz does not require, plus the prices are reasonable and more in line with what you get for your buck and even better if you keep in mind you are in Aspen where everything is triple prices in comparison. They provide a meet and greet happy hour usually between 3:00-4:00pm with white wine and cookies. Yesterday, I was a late arrival and I was still offered wine. Tom even graciously opened another bottle! Everyone has always been so friendly and if you come there often, you really feel at home. Even the guests most times are friendly and engaging. The 7am breakfast is basic, with fruit, cereals, bagels, waffles, etc. Coffee is usually provided in the lobby at 6:30am. The staff, Tom, Joel and Michael (who the latter living there 51 yrs somehow tells me he is the owner) are all so very friendly. Now after giving this raving review, I hope they don't...
Read morei cannot say enough great things about St. Moritz!
It is in a great location just a few blocks away from the main mall in downtown Aspen, and less than a 5 minute walk to the nearest RFTA (free local bus) station. You can be from the hotel to any of the 4 mountains in 30 minutes or less.
Based on the price was a little unsure of the quality, but it really is a great value. The rooms weren't big, but definitely had enough space to keep all my snow gear (there's also additional storage space in a general storage room on the first floor), and the beds were comfortable. Bathrooms/showers were clean and included a good assortment of toiletries if you forgot something. There's a great general area in the main lobby with a fire place and couches to wind down after a day of skiing (they serve wine and cookies from 4-8pm!). Full kitchen downstairs which includes a great complementary breakfast that is way better than most continental breakfasts served. Also a heated pool outside for a soak in the evening.
Most importantly the staff is out of this world friendly and will go out of their way to assist you with any need you have. Tom and Arianna were two of the staff members I worked with and were extremely accommodating with late night arrival, valuable storage, late check out, and giving great tips and pointers for navigating the Aspen area.
Overall, a great experience, and will be staying there again. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for lodging in...
