We did not have high expectations prior to arriving at this hotel. We just needed a clean place to rest our head. It looks a little shabby as you drive up but once you enter, the lobby was nice and the desk attendant was courteous and helpful. Here's what happened next: 1) the key cards were very difficult to use, no matter how you placed them in the slot, they did not work until after many tries; 2) as soon as we opened the door to the room, we were met by a funky smell. We decided to leave our bags packed, open the window, and go to dinner, with the hope that when we returned, it would smell better. 3) It did not. In fact, the fresh air seemed to heighten a dog smell on top of the cigarette/funky smell. 4) I went to the front desk and asked if it would be possible to move to another room and the attendant said to me, "are you in room 204? we just can't seem to get that room to smell fresh." When we arrived there were no cars in the lot. The place was empty. Why would you put a guest with a reservation in a room that you know smells bad? 5) The next room didn't smell that great either but it was much better than 204 so we decided to crank the ac and see if that would help. It did. We fell asleep and slept well. 6) I headed to the lobby first thing when I woke up so I could get a cup of coffee. There were two urns with regular coffee and both were bone dry. There was also an overflowing trash bin and clearly no attention being paid to the breakfast area. I went looking for someone to help and found someone who said they would get right on it and they did. But then they completely disappeared. I then saw them in a room behind the front desk with other employees but after about 15 minutes, I just gave up and went to take a shower. Eventually some coffee showed up in the lobby. I realize this may seem petty, but it doesn't seem outrageous to expect the person responsible for hotel breakfast areas to stay on top of the coffee. I shouldn't have even had to ask for more. It's a small thing but it makes a difference and shouldn't be a high bar to meet. 7) Thankfully, I took a good look at our bill before we left. I was surprised to see a $3 parking fee on it!! Again, a very small thing but I took a picture of the HUGE parking mall lot that abuts this hotel and it is, like many other malls, very empty. To charge a parking fee at a cheap hotel that has a ton of parking right next to it is ridiculous. It probably hit me harder than it should because of the smelly room and having to move and not having had a decent cup of coffee, but I asked for it to be removed and it was. So, no, I don't plan to stay here again and honestly, I think I have stayed in my last Comfort Inn. It seems a little extravagant to have to move up to the $150/night chains just to get a good night's rest on a road trip, but I have...
Read moreThe staff were pleasant and friendly but the hotel left a bit to be desired. The first day we got there we were low on toilet paper. Called the front desk who was quick to bring one roll.
We stayed for a few days and they hardly ever came in the room. They swapped towels after the 1st day only. There was a notice that they come every three days unless requested to change towels, but I've never been in a hotel that they don't still replenish other things like toilet paper and make the beds automatically. They never made the beds at all. I had to request more toilet paper from housekeepers each time since they never came in.
Breakfast was good but the furniture in that area needs updating. The seats have badly torn and worn fabric which is an infection control issue. The smell of chlorine was overwhelming in the pool area.
The room cards can't be near a cell phone or they erase the card. Therefore we had to keep going down to get new ones. They warned us about it but it was overly sensitive. I've never been to a hotel that I can't keep the card with my phone. Also they don't ask for ID when you get a new card so there's a safety risk there as well.
Finally we were there with a large group for a soccer tournament which was going to need to extend our stay if games were won on the last couple days. This was known to the hotel prior to check in. They wouldn't let us do later check out to see if we won because of the need to clean the rooms if we were leaving. I can understand their issue being short staffed and stuff but we ended up taking 13 rooms to another hotel for the last day as a result. Seems like a bad business model. I find it hard to believe that they ended up booking all these rooms after we left on a Monday.
The location was good for our group since it was walking distance to the mall and many places to eat.
In summary, the staff were very pleasant and tried their best but the management and their business model need...
Read moreThe staff was friendly, however when we arrived there were at least two soccer teams that also were booked there, these were high school teens. At approximately 9:30 pm we began hearing teens running up and down the hall knocking on motel doors. They had no problems yelling, answering loudly ringing cell phones all the while passing closed doors. I tolerated this noise until almost midnight, at which time I dressed and entered the hall, my room was @ 219 I think, the teens at this point were all sitting at the further end of the hall talking loudly. I spoke up and told them to quiet down and get into their rooms or take themselves outside or I would contact the front desk! It took over 30 minutes for them to quiet down, the following morning directly across from our room another patron had a large dog that barked, and in fact pulled on the leash barking and trying to get near my husband! I really think that the staff should check the floors at least hourly after 10 pm and also any patron who brings a dog should be "required" to muzzle that dog while in the motel! I was very disappointed, as this was our third night and we had a long day driving home without a full nights rest or sleeping! We traveled from IL to Niagara Falls staying first in Erie, PA and at the Niagara Falls Comfort Inn with no problems, a good nights sleep and friendly staff! I have used the Comfort Inn in Duluth, MN as well with no problems. The rooms are always clean, the staff friendly, and the beds comfortable. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. ps I also wondered where were the teen's chaperones? Sleeping soundly on...
