We came to town for the Billy Bob’s/ Showbiz pizza across the street. My daughter is a big fan. The location was convenient, and although the area around the motel was a bit sketchy, it was near restaurants and the pizza place we came to visit. The lady at the front desk was nice, although I’m not sure she knew how to operate the system. I had checked in via text, but she said they didn’t get any of that info. But still she helped us get one of the newer “remodeled” rooms which was appreciated considering my daughter has bad ocd. The outer doors of the motel are all broken. It didn’t appear to be a great neighborhood and this is a big safety issue. We saw what appeared to be a drug addict just inside one of the back doors around 6am talking to herself and later we saw her sneaking in for a free to-go breakfast. Not good. Maybe she wasn’t a meth addict, but I suspect she was. She didn’t bother us, but she was clearly disturbed.
As we walked down the motel hall there were a variety of unpleasant odd smells. Not sure if it was the carpet or rooms, but they weren’t pleasant smells. No idea what that was, but it had a dirty feel. Our room was on the first floor and supposedly one of the newly “remodeled” rooms. When we entered the room we immediately noticed a strong ammonia odor, which at first I appreciated considering the smells in the hallway, as perhaps it was used to clean something very dirty or smelly in our room. At least we knew parts of the room had been cleaned with it. But eventually it was burning my eyes and although we got used to it, it probably wasn’t healthy to inhale. But we just had a one night stay, so we pressed on.
Next, the window seal was rotted and there were chunk of debris from the window area in the floor beside the HVAC. The curtain was also hanging down off a broken connector above it. Not a big deal, but not a good look. On the ceiling above the bed, the popcorn tiles or paint was pealing off in a few places. The floors looked like newer LPV in the room, so better than carpet as we suspected it was easier to clean. The toilet (when flushed) had water come almost to the rim before slowing going down. My daughter was terrified to use it, but had to at one point. We had no soap or any other bathroom products in our room and there was no ice bucket. We did have rags and towels and a clean bed. Fortunately we brought our own soap. The ac worked ok. The shower we didn’t use as the walls of it looked a bit suspect (unclean) and again, it was only a one night stay.
The price was cheap and we know why. Since we knew we’d only be in the room to sleep and have breakfast we took the risk knowing it might not be the best.
On a positive note, the breakfast was great. Nice selections of hot and cold items, including eggs, bacon...
Read moreMy husband and I booked a room 0for 2 nights just to unwind and relax from our busy lives. We didn't check in until late. We were exhausted. Everything seemed fine with our room until I used the bathroom. The floor was wet but I couldn't figure out where water was coming from. Then I heard dripping from the back of toilet near the floor. I cleaned it up, laid a towel down an took a shower. When I got out, the floor was flooded. My husband tried to fix it but it needed a seal or ring or something. By this time it was after midnight.l We were way too tired to switch rooms so he just turned the water off and we went to bed. Next morning the Maid came around 8am. She woke us by knocking very loudly on the door yelling 'housekeeping!" Ugg, I was so irritated to put it mildly!! We were there to rest!! She wanted to know if we were checking out or staying. They should already know we were booked for 2 nights. Anyway, I told her what happened and asked for clean towels since ours were all soaked on bathroom floor. We waited till 3pm, still no towels. My husband called the front desk, told them the issue, the young man assured us he'd get them right to us. We had to skip showering & went out for dinner and a movie. Around 10:30 we returned to our room, still NO towels or maintenance to repair toilet. My husband called the office again, we waited & waited & waited only wanting to shower & go to bed. Finally, around midnight he called the front desk back. The guy said he brought them to our room but we didn't answer the door so he left them in the hallway on the floor! Really? Are you kidding me? He literally argued with my husband. There were NO towels in the hallway, nor no one knocked on our door! He then told us it was too late to get us some clean towels. Meanwhile, my husband has to turn the water on to flush the toilet then back off to stop the dripping & flooding. I was beyond frustrated by then! Next morning same thing with the maid. She finally brought them shortly before time to checkout. I started to ask for a manager but I didn't want to deal with them anymore. Also, I knew my husband would say & it wouldn't be pretty!l After paying this Hotel almost $200.00 we had deal with the broken toilet, flooded bathroom floor & couldn't shower! We didn't even receive an apology......
Read moreI usually don't have much to complain about when it comes to my hotel stays, but this one annoyed me so much.
My husband, two toddlers and I reserved this hotel because we were coming to Barboursville for a funeral, so there was quite a few of us checking in during the weekend. Let me start by saying that check-in was easy. The younger male clerk was nice, informative and very helpful. Once we arrived to our room, we immediately noticed that there was an OVERWHELMING smell of smoke, even though the hotel is advertised as a non-smoking hotel. Not wanting to be charged the $250 fee for smoking, my husband went down to the front desk to let the clerk know. This time there was also a female there. Apparently she didn't care at all, because not once she did attach any notes to our room. Come to find out, THE ENTIRE HOTEL smells like smoke. It's due to the fact that almost all of the workers smoke; including housekeeping. So, basically, when they clean your room and they smell like cigarette smoke, they leave a bit of it in every room they enter. Smh
My second issue was the fact that my mother-in-law; who was traveling with my sister-in-law and niece, so they had double beds and a rollout. Well, she found out not long after check-in that their shower didn't work. When she went to complain, they sent a handyman to come and repair it, but he couldn't. After that, the only compensation that the clerk told her she could do was to move her to another room, which cold have been fine, except for the fact that the room only had a king sized bed. That wouldn't do any good for three people, so my MIL decided to keep their room and just shower in my two nephews room next door.
My last and final issue was the fact that our shower was terrible. While the stream was powerful, there were two stray streams caused by calcium buildup that made the water spray all over my face while inside. This made my shower not only annoying, but uncomfortable; which caused me to wash up quickly just to get out.
The only reason this hotel has two-starts and not one is because the beds were comfortable, and the blankets were soft. Other than that and check-in clerk, I don't have anything nice to say about this...
