Cracker Barrel Old Country Store — Restaurant in Barboursville

Terrible experience every single time. One time I called to place a small to-go order at 8:34. Literally just wanted chicken and dumplings. They claim they “can’t take to-go orders after 8:30.” Since I was 4 minutes away, I drove there and walked in at 8:40. I assume that since they close at 9, they wouldn’t want me to dine-in. So I make another attempt and ask them if I can please order some chicken and dumplings to-go. The cashier asks the manager, who again claims that they can’t place a to-go order. So I tell them ok, then I want a table. As soon as the wait staff seen me at the hostess desk, they went into the kitchen and then staff kept popping their heads around the corner, sighing and basically their body language was that they were not happy I was dining in. They finally got me to a seat where I told them I don’t want a drink or anything, that I just wanted chicken and dumplings. They quickly brought out the dumplings and I told them I now want a to-go box, that I never wanted to eat in. I just wanted to get my food and leave. This last time, we got there at 8. At 8:34 they still hadn’t brought out our food. Soon after, they brought it out and at that point thought it would be the perfect time to tell us that they are out of biscuits which is supposed to come with all of our meals and what we all asked for. My son and I are very disappointed because we were excited to have biscuits with our meals. This place is always out of something!! .. They do not offer to make it right. I look at my chicken and dumplings and it looks like it’s been sitting for a while and has pepper sprinkled all over the top. I clearly order this meal a lot and it has never came with freshly sprinkled pepper on the top. Ever. I tried to eat it but extra pepper in my dumplings just isn’t what I like. I tell them I don’t want the dumplings and the kitchen lady comes out with no explanation for why my dumplings have pepper on them, kind of has an attitude, and tells me that they “don’t have anymore dumplings to make this late”. That’s the only meal I like from there so unfortunately for my family, our dinner together was ruined and I couldn’t even get food from anywhere else with it being so late. They ONLY agreed to take my meal off the bill & did not offer my family even a coupon or percentage off for this extreme inconvenience and waist of time they caused us. Very disappointing. My husband and I went to your Barboursville WV for dinner around 5 pm on Dec 17. The waitress took our drink order which was water and coffee. Five minutes later she came back and said she had to brew a pot and proceeded to take our dinner order. After waiting over 20 minutes we still had no coffee. She never checked on us within the 20 minutes. Finally she came out and took someone else’s order and we flagged her down and told her to forget the coffee. We waited another 10-15 minutes for our food. And finally another waitress came out so we flagged her down and she went and told our waitress we were waiting for food and she brought it out then. Mind you the restaurant was not busy at the time. There were alot of empty tables. When she brought the bill the coffee was not on the bill but Diet Coke was which we didn’t order. So checking out we tried to tell the cashier and she was VERY VERY rude. When we tried to explain things all she would say is what is your reward number. We finally asked for the manager and while explaining things to him two cashiers kept looking at each other with smirks on their faces Very very rude. Now I know people well enough that these two will stick together and blame the customer. But I can’t believe that your employees would treat customers like they did. I love Cracker Barrel and eat there a lot But after this treatment I for sure will never eat at the Barboursville restaurant again. I will let all my coworkers know and all my friends. No customer should be treated like this. I was so disappointed in your employees. No coffee. First, we made a reservation online. It said our table would be ready in five minutes. We thought wonderful, yet when we checked in with 4 children the host responded with, "Oh, that thing never works. We will have to wait for a big table to open." We waited about 15-20 minutes. Which was not bad for a table of 6. When we were greeted by our server you could tell she was extremely busy. She quickly asked if we were ready to order our food and drinks. Take in mind, I could spot to what I assume was Management talking with hostess, bus Boys, kitchen workers, and cashiers. Meanwhile this poor server took on more tables than she could handle. They continued to talk and laugh while many guests needed refills, napkins, as well as silverware. They could have brought bread out first for her, refills, checked on guests.... Anything. She was extremely busy and they could have cared less. As a manager of a restaurant myself it made me uncomfortable and dumbfounded by the lack of management skills or acknowledgement. Front of the house as well as back of the house had to know. We didnt get one refill. 😔 we were there around 5 pm on 4-11-20. I highly recommend finding management willing to stop talking and start working because customers were not being served like the standards this restaurant proudly strives to portray. Also, you could tell which items sat in a window or hotbox to die a cold death which was disappointing.Like the gravy, casserole, and side items that weren't needing to be fried or prepared to order. It came out fast. My sirloin was very good. My husband country fried steak was hot and juicy with some cold chunky gravy on top.
