First of all, this was the most awkwardly set up room I've ever stayed in. When you walk in the door, the bathroom, sink and closet are immediately to your right. The actual room had a king size bed, two bedside tables, a desk that ran parallel to the side of the bed an over sized chair in the corner. The TV was at the end of the desk, almost even with the head of the bed, so unless one of us set up and the other laid down we could not both watch the TV at the same time. The room was rather small, and ordinary. This was suppose to be a suite, by the way.
After checking in we realized the toilet was clogging, so we called down to the front desk to ask them to send someone. The front desk guy showed up with a plunger and left. After numerous attempts to fix it myself, I called again and said we couldn't fix it, and asked if they could send a maintenance man (as I figured they would in the first place) and was told they didn't have one. I said we couldn't stay in a room without a bathroom all weekend. We were moved to a new room 4 doors down, with the exact same awkward set up.
After dinner, we brought back our left overs to our room, which we hadn't realized at this point, didn't have a microwave. The only microwave available is in the lobby by the front desk. This is also the only place you can get drinks (limited to water, Pepsi products, energy drinks, wine and beer) or candy, as there are not any vending machines through out the hotel.
On Friday night of our stay, we were awaken around midnight by screaming, hollering, running and jumping in the room next to ours. It sounded like there were numerous children in the room. We called down to the front desk and asked them if they'd please ask the next room to keep it down. Half an hour later it was still going on, so my husband decided to walk down to the front desk and tell them we couldn't sleep because they were being so loud. The front desk guy said, "What do you want me to do about it? If you don't want to hear noise, don't stay in a hotel. I ain't going down there!" The next morning my husband spoke to the day time manager about the rude staff member from the night before, she apologized and said she would comp the room for the night.
On Saturday evening, we again had issues with the toilet. We called down to the front desk, and another staff member showed up at the door with a large industrial sized plunger in a bucket. She said it was the only one they had because all of the others were being used at the moment. I asked if they were having plumbing issues (as it seems odd to me that ALL the plungers in a hotel would be being used at the same time) and she assured me they weren't. I told her the first room we'd been in last night had had the same issue, and we weren't able to get it unclogged. She asked if we'd left the plunger in the room, and I told her we had. Without another word, she turned around and started walking toward our old room, still carrying the plunger and bucket in her hand. I stood at the door, waiting, assuming she was going to get the other plunger. After a while, I shut the door and sit down because she was taking so long. 20 minutes later, she still hadn't come back, and I still had no plunger. I had to call the front desk yet again. They again said that the plunger she brought was the only one they had. I said that was fine, I just needed to use it, since she'd decided to walk off with it and never brought anything back. Someone else brought the same plunger she had had back to me, then I was instructed to set it outside the door after I was done. This time I was actually able to fix it myself, thank goodness, but I have no doubt there is plumbing issues without the entire hotel since two rooms had the exact same problem.
These were just a few problems we had. The year before we stayed at Towne Place Suites by Marriot, which is right next door. It's a much better quality hotel with friendly staff, and the rooms were cheaper. We got a room twice the size of this one, for $40 cheaper. They were booked or we would've stayed...
Read moreAbsolutely an awful Marriott property. We had an overnight layover at DFW. I used Bonvoy points to book two rooms here, as it is relatively close to the airport, with resturants next door.
We made an appointment to have the shuttle to pick us up. When we got outside, it was nowhere to be found. We waited 20 minutes and then called the hotel to see what the deal was, they said rudely "No shuttle today." Okay, so we grabbed an Uber at the cost of $50.
When we arrived and went to check in, they could only find the reservation for one room, even though I had confirmation emails for both rooms. After 15 minutes the night desk manager was able to pull up the reservation on the main system and gave us both our rooms. As we were making an appointment for the airport shuttle in the morning, another hotel guest came to the desk and started an argument over some room charges with the manager. Yelling on both sides occurred and the cops showed up, telling the guest and manager to both knock it off or they would be arrested. Interesting check in for sure.
We were assured our ride would be ready in the morning and apologies were given for the bistro and bar being closed for the evening.
The next morning we came down for coffee and breakfast, except there wasn't any. No coffee out or available for purchase, not so much as an apple available at the still closed bistro or hotel marketplace. I enquired at the desk, where I was intinally completely ignored, until a different hotel employee came over and said that no services were available. I asked about our shuttle ride, and was told there is no shuttle and hasn't been for days. I informed him that I had a ride confirmed the previous evening, and was told "too bad" in response. When I asked for some coffee, as our room had none stocked, I was directed to a gas station a half mile away.
We were left with no choice but to use another $50 Uber. Staying at hotel airports, you expect to get shuttle service and continental breakfast. If you have to pay $100 round trip for taxi service and buy your own coffee and breakfast, there are way better hotels than airport adjacent ones to stay at. Add in the awful customer service this hotel provides and you should definitely stay at any of the other 200...
Read moreI’m a huge Courtyard fan, and I have a level of expectation for staying at a Courtyard that this hotel missed by miles. First the good: fairly easy access, Starbucks nearby, and the room itself was pretty clean. The room is heated/cooled by one of those motel window air conditioners but controlled by a central control pad. Those aren’t the cleanest, but it kept the room fairly comfortable.
But overall this felt like I was staying at a highway motel, not a Courtyard. The building is clearly a converted older motel, which isn’t a big deal. But once inside it felt dirty and gross in the hallways and front. (Again, the room itself was clean). The hallways are dark, there is only one elevator on the far back corner, so if you are upstairs you have to walk a very long way. (Be aware, however, that they said first floor rooms have sliding glass doors, so not really safe.) The front cafe is closed due to COVID (understandable!) but is a large, fairly dark empty are right as you walk in, which leads to a feeling of the hotel being half abandoned. The woman who checked me in seemed irritated to be there, and was not very helpful- her replacement a couple of hours later was very sweet and kind, so maybe it was just end of shift fatigue? One big thing— when I went to open my door after dropping off my luggage and running out for dinner, it wouldn’t open. The keycard would unlock it, but then it was like someone had flipped the metal lock on the inside. I tried for 5-6 minutes before hiking all the way down to the front desk, where the nice young lady came back up with me and after a couple of tries it opened. She told me the way the locks are installed, the metal lock sometimes drifts over when you close the door and you just have to keep trying it until it jiggles out of the way. WHAT?!? If you know this is a problem, FIX IT!! Don’t just say “it happens sometimes!” (The hotel, not her...she was really kind.) She was right- about half the time during our stay it happened- taking between 3 tries and 5 minutes to open the door. That alone was enough for me to never stay here again.
Bottom line: once you are in the room it’s fine....once you are driving away it’s fine. Any time in...
